Yes, it's sad when December comes as it's the end of the insanity. The end of frantic nights of writing until your eyes bleed and people swear that you have become a hermit.

And end to the times spent procrastinating until after Thanksgiving and writing almost your entire Nano in 5 days.

And an end to the community rules as the ninja squirrels go back into hibernation until next September.

For those who won, and those who fell short, and those who deserve thanks... )

I am very proud of the community this year, and I have to thank all of you for that. This was the first year we had NO WANK WHATSOEVER (*throws confetti*) however we also had some nasty trolls (*throws them off cliffs*). But this year there was a wonderful sense of community, and that alone makes me very happy to have made the decision to keep this place going this year.

Thank you all for making this a wonderful season. As of this post, the rules are now down, the community is now free form until next mid-September when we all start the countdown all over again. I hope to see each and every one of you again, and bring your friends.

Until then... so long, and thanks for all the fish. See you next year!

Yes, this is a totally non-Nano post, but it pertains to the community anyway.

Livejournal will be down tomorrow (11/18) starting at 8am PST. They are estimating that it should only take 4 hours to move their servers. But this is also LJ so you never know...

More information can be found here.

So that means you can not procrastinate on your novels tomorrow by surfing LJ. You're going to be forced to write *gasp*

Sorry about the graphic anime spam, folks. It's gone and user has been banned. Just woke up and [livejournal.com profile] syrensix pointed it out to me.

Seriously, some people really need to get lives and some maturity.

To all our new members:

Please read the Community Rules before posting to the community. It keeps me from having to delete your posts, and I don't want to do it anymore than you want me to.

All introduction posts are to be done in the intro threads. If you are joining now, that thread is available here for the rest of the month.

Do not introduce yourself and toss a question up in the end of the post. They will be taken as introductions and you will be given notice to remove the intro and keep the question in a set amount of time, or the post will be deleted.

Posts should start discussions about problems, ideas, etc.., which usually mean asking questions, AND/OR bringing something to contribute to the community like icons or online tools. Talking about yourself and your project will be seen as spam and deleted.

Thank you

OK... so far I think I've gotten most of the hacker kinks out of the way. I just learned about the moderated queue and went through and cleared that out. Whew. Reminds me why I don't run with a queue here LOL.

Also, you should be able to post again. If you tried today and couldn't, it's working now.

note: ANYONE WHO CLICKED ON THAT LINK FROM THE HACKER, RUN A VIRUS SCAN ON YOUR COMPUTER. Seriously. Better safe than sorry.

I've sent a request to Support about trying to get the regional thread and the pimping thread back as the hacker deleted them both. Keep your fingers crossed.

Also, our profile has gone MIA, so I will rebuild it tonight.

I need a hug... and cookies... and a hot cowboy to give me a backrub while I do all this...

I have the community back in my hot little hands...

Thank you all who helped contact the Abuse Team, as well as spread the word to the community members on other NaNo LJ sites.

I need to run a quick maintenance rundown and see what happened while I was gone, and I will get the daily threads up ASAP.

And the offender has been banned from LJ by the admins, and this shall hopefully not happen again.

I am posting this out of sheer frustration today. I have had to delete several posts today, and somehow, that annoys me.

Please read the community rules. If you find them too long to read all at once, allow me to simplify.

Word counts - in the daily word count post, unless you have reached 50,000. Then, and ONLY then, can you post your own post about it. We are all proud of you!!!

Excerpts - in the daily excerpt post. I know we are all awesome writers, but if your excerpt is taking up my entire friends page, I am not a happy camper.

Intros - Find the last intro post and post it there. We stopped them November 5th, but feel free to introduce yourself in that last post.

Plot Help - If you are stuck, confused, looking for ideas or just generally stunned, please post in the weekly plot thread post.

If you can follow these rules, (and the ones [livejournal.com profile] alison_sky has posted) I will be a very happy mod, and not need to put on my ninja squirrel face. If you have questions or concerns, ask. I do not bite, contrary to popular opinion.

Happy writing, everyone.

With NaNo officially starting in a few days, I guess it's about time to put up what the November Rules are going to be. And yes, again, this post is not under a cut. I'm sorry if it clogs your FL, but that's the way this post goes.

What's actually nice is that since you're familiar with the October Rules, the November ones really don't change much. In fact, they all stay put except for a few minor changes.

Though our big Rule #1? That's always in effect.

So here the house rules for November (they will look familiar...):

Rule #1... NO TALKING ABOUT THE NANO WEBSITE

Rule #2... INTRODUCTIONS ARE DONE IN THE DAILY INTRO POSTS - This rule goes on until November 5th, when at that time the vast majority should have introduced themselves.

Rule #3... R-E-S-P-E-C-T

Rule #4... NO SPAM

RULE #5... POSTING OF INDIVIDUAL WORD COUNTS IS NOT PERMITTED. As with the handy dandy Intro posts, there will be daily Word Count threads. You can reply in there with your meters, your text counts, your frustrations with your falling behind and only have 35 words written on November 16th, etc.

EXCEPTION TO RULE #5 - When you DO hit your 50K, you are allowed to post your victory in your own individual post. Why, you ask? Because I believe that everyone deserves their 15 minutes of glory, and you've had to put up with consolidated posts for 2 months, so SOMETHING has to be for individual shining.

If you aren't happy with this, then you might want to filter the group from November 26ish until December 1st. That tends to be what I do. And I'm the mod :)

RULE #6... ABOUT EXCERPTS: you will want to share the little nugget of joy called your NaNo, and that is perfectly fine. You have multiple ways to do this without an individual post.

a. Daily Excerpt thread. (replies are limited to 4000 words, and please do not do multiple replies to try and post your entire nano)

b. the 2008 LJ NaNo Pimp thread. You can advertise your writing LJ journal for people to friend it and read. (You're also allowed to do this in your intro on the intro thread.)

c. Plot Help thread. Though obviously this is more the place to get help, you're also going to end up talking about your project here. Just in a "help me" kinda way.

RULE #7... ABOUT NANOSPRINTS: In tradition, we have an AIM chat room in which we run NaNosprints during November. This year's chat room moderator is [livejournal.com profile] callita623. She will have her own set of rules that should be posted in the next day or two. Her rules are to be followed just as if they were my own.

and RULE #8... the rules are subject to change at any time based off the needs of the community.

Feel free to comment with questions for clarification. And thank you again for making this community one of the best on Livejournal!

Who's excited?

I know, stupid question.

Who here knows that they are going to write? I think that's the real question at this point.

Well, I thought I would let everyone know that this community is one of the LJ communities that has been chosen to be in the LJ Spotlight for November! And I'm glad because I know this is a great place to be, not because of what I do, but because of the people in it.

So I have a good feeling that in the next week we are going to see a SURGE of new people joining in their last minute rush. So I will ask a favor to you all -

If a new member joins and posts an intro post, or another type of post that belongs in a consolidation thread, please gently leave them a post pointing them to the daily thread they need to post in. [livejournal.com profile] jynxgirl and I will do our best to keep up, but any help from members would be greatly appreciated.

Also, next week I will be posting the November rules. So be ready so the subtle shift we go through as we stop plotting, and start writing.

Thank you everyone!
