FYI - while I have no qualms with people wanting to find writing buddies, posting an individual post for them is not the way to go about it. They are weird hybrids between introductions and ads, which are two separate no-no rules.

If you are looking for writing buddies, there are a few perfectly good ways to find them in this community!

1. Introduce yourself in the daily introduction thread! Seriously.

2. Want someone that matches your specific genre? Go to the Genre Friending Thread HERE!

3. Want someone that lives in the same town and will take you away from the distractions in your home, meet you for coffee and just write? The Regional Friending Thread is available HERE. Look for your location or start a new one if you don't see it!

4. Worse comes to worse, put an ad up in the Pimping Post HERE and let people know what you're looking for. This is the classified section of this community.

And members should always go back in and look at these threads throughout the Nano season. You never know what new stuff will go up while you're been away!

Have a great day!

1. NO posting about the website.

That even includes things you FEEL others should look at. The whole purpose of this place was founded on people who found the boards CONFUSING and HARD TO NAVIGATE. The rule came from too many people crossposting and wanting to know the status of the site.

2. This website is NOT affiliated with the NANO website in ANY SHAPE OR FORM. We are a separate unaffiliated support group. I run it, and I haven't signed up on the website for 3 years now, and I still do NaNo every year. I don't need a certificate to prove to me what I have done, and I don't feel anyone should have it. That is why people come here who are writing the "unconventional" Nano... the rebels. And they are welcomed with open arms, veterans and newbies alike.

3. I don't understand the complaint about DOZENS of posts being scrolled through today. Today there was 7 posts total, two of which was a mod rules post and the daily intro post. I don't believe the community is being taken over by newbies asking the same question over and over again.

That said - if someone wants to take time and make a FAQ's for this community, I am more than willing to look it over, put it up on the sidebar, and give you credit for it. Anyone up for the challenge can PM me.

Finally - I'm sorry, but you were all newbies to Nano at one point. You all knew what it was like your first year jumping into this and having questions, and I really sincerly doubt you didn't ask hundreds of them, or understand the FAQ's and needed further information. Have some patience like others did with you on your first year.

We're a SUPPORT group. That's what we do here. If you don't want to help, then please look into other communities. I'm not going to stop newbies from asking questions anymore than I'm going to ask a veteran to ask them.

And lastly - if you can't say something nice, please don't say anything at all. Golden rule is your friend, and I don't want bitch sessions in my community especially since I hate doing these posts myself and would rather not have reasons

Comments are turned off. You have a question, PM me. I will get to it in the morning.

Just wanted to make a reminder that we have a post that goes up daily for you to introduce yourselves in. I've noticed in the last few days that people have been combining their questions with their intros.

Please note that part of Rule #2 is:

Also - no trying to sneak an intro in with a question. They are separate things. Just ask the straight questions and not have a 4 paragraph preamble on who you are, where are you from, and what the kitten's name means.

This benefits you because it will keep people from skimming past your post, and want to actually reply. And you want people to reply, right? :)

I will start asking people to edit their posts and redirecting them to the intro posts as I see this happening. Questions, while benefiting you by asking, should also be great resources that others with similar problems can look at later on for help and advice. They might miss that if you start out as an intro.

Any questions, please ask. Thanks!

Also, if you haven't seen it in the community, we've had our annual face lift. [livejournal.com profile] aurumsisters is the winner of the annual community header contest, so give her a hand!

If you ever need to find something in the community, please click into it and look at the sidebar, where there is always a handy dandy list of what's available to look at in the community.

Things are going to be a lot going up this week, so stay on your toes!

Yes, we're there. The community is quiet, but I'm sure it's everyone waiting to pounce on the daily posts, right?

As promised, I'm going to start tonight off with the RULES OF THE COMMUNITY FOR OCTOBER. Come November, there will be a new set, and it will replace this post at the top of the community.

And I apologize, but this post gets no cut (Rule posts never do). Also, repeat members will think this looks familiar as it's basically a cut&paste from last year (with tweaking of course...)

And it's long. But that's how it rolls here. If the rules are followed, they won't be repeatedly posted.

And before we start the rules, all new members are urged to read previous posts before posting questions to the community. Your question may have already been answered!

So... Rule #1...

NO TALKING ABOUT THE NANO WEBSITE

There seems to be a bit of misunderstanding about this rule. Yes, it means not talking about the status of the website on whether it is up or down or hacked or whatever. But it's also leaving posts about "Have you seen this thread?", "how do you work this aspect".... etc and so forth. This also falls into including e-mails that you get from being a member on the website.

Basically - if it has to do with the website at all... take it elsewhere.

Reason for this rule are explained here

There is now an LJ community for maintenance issues if you need to talk about those types of issues: [livejournal.com profile] nanomaintenance

Rule #2...

INTRODUCTIONS ARE DONE IN THE DAILY INTRO POSTS

A mod will put up a post every day. In that post, you will do your whole "Hi, I'm Jessica and I'm a NaNoholic" type deal. They are not to be done individual any longer.

Rule #3...

R-E-S-P-E-C-T

Golden rule, people. Treat others as how you want to be treated. I'M in charge...and I will be three things:

1. Straightforward
2. Firm
3. Fun

I can be your best friend, or you will hate me. And I won't apologize for my rulings because I will only rule on something that has been already stated as a rule. I will also clarify things and explain them, not outright be pissy. However, I will also respond back with the same treatment as I'm given. My default is nice with an edge of blunt honesty, and that's what I ask all of my friends to be like with me.

This community is meant to be fun, and while I know everyone has their own rights to their own opinions, this is not a place for soapboxing your views on others. Ever member in this community is a friend, and if you can't say anything nice to another member, don't say anything at all.

And if you feel that you can not be a member of a structured community with rules that are enforced for only 2 out of 12 months, then I wish you best on finding another sandbox. But I'm the Queen of this Loony Bin.

And disrespect me? That's the only instant-ban offense. And I am not kidding.

Rule #4...

NO SPAM

As of now, there is no individual posts for pimping. And I'm not talking about hookers...

All mentions of "join this community" or "come visit this site" and especially "I'm (this) on the boards and my Nano LJ is here", etc and so forth will be put into a seasonal consolidated post that will go up this weekend and will have a link HERE (obviously when it's up). Come December, this rule is removed until the following October.

That said - regional communities CAN be pimped in the regional friending thread as the regions go up.

Rule #5...

CONCERNING OTHER CONSOLIDATED THREADS...

If there is a post type that is consolidated, that type does not get individual posts. In October, there will be multiple ones. Only the mod will post these, and everyone else does their answers in replies.

This is the list, and tags for them will be in the sidebar of the community:

Daily:

Intros
Writing Prompts
Sprint Times
Word Counts (start in November)
Excerpts (start in November)

Weekly:

Plot Help - See this 2007 post for reason why. Normally starts in November, but will start early if the community gets inundated.

Seasonly:

Regional Friending Post
Pimp Post

And Rule #6...

I reserve the right to change the rules as the current season's community demands it. Being adding a new type of consolidate post, cutting off a certain type, etc. Sometimes I will vote (like I did with the plot helps) and sometimes I will make an executive decision. But again, I'm the Queen of the Loony Bin, and there is no committee.

I'm opening the post up for questions, but not comments. Questions I will answer as soon as I am able, comments will be screened or removed depending on their nature.

And as always, I really hope you are able to enjoy this community and use it to enhance your NaNo season. But I am also aware that some people are not comfortable with the structure here. NaNo is about having fun first and foremost. If you do not feel that you will have fun in this type of environment, you are more than welcome to join others and find a community that fits your needs. I won't be insulted, nor will I feel guilt. But I will wish you well, and good luck on your Nano.

It's almost October, folks. Let's get the party started already!

Hello everyone!

Just checking in to remind everyone that I will be putting the community in full moderated mod starting on Sunday, September 27th.

What does that mean?

No More self-promotional posts (there WILL be a spot for it, I promise!)

No More individual introductions (again, there WILL be a DAILY spot for that!)

and what's the first rule of [livejournal.com profile] nanowrimo's community?

NO MORE TALKING ABOUT THE WEBSITE AND HAPPENINGS ON THERE!

Explanation of the rule for all the newcomers )

OTHER NEWS!

NaNo Sprints are going to be sponsored this year! [livejournal.com profile] jynxgirl, my wonderful co-mod(ish?) pal, will be having her community, [livejournal.com profile] allyear_sprints running sprints. She will be posting the times daily during November. I will let her explain her rules and processes more in her own intro post.

[livejournal.com profile] age is working on finding a new type of writing exercise to run this year, and she will be letting us know soon what that is going to be.

The official rules for pre-November go up on September 27th. The daily posts will start then too. I have a few surprises up my sleeve as well. :)

Randomly - if you get a MOD POST from a journal [livejournal.com profile] likely_evil, that is my fandom journal and I just forgot to switch accounts. It'll happen rarely, but if it does, posts from that journal are to be treated just like posts from me.

And finally, deadline for the community banner design ends on September 27th at 9am CST. So far we have two entries here and here. Here are the specifics again:

I'd love to go for a paisley retro type feel this year, with of course a matching Mod icon. Oranges, greens, purples and browns. Making community icons as well...

Please keep them coming. :) And tag any icon posts with the tag 2009: graphics so everyone can find your banners, icons, and hand drawn "I LOVE MY MOD" crayon refrigerator sketches.

See you Sunday!!!

Yes, like the Shadow I have been lurking in the dark corners, watching and waiting.

I know it's almost that time. I can feel the creative dam that is about to break.

And as always, I'm so not prepared for it yet!

Just wanted to give you all a heads-up that this community becomes fully moderated again by yours truly on the office pre-start date of October 1st. Which really means I'm going to start cracking the whip on the 27th to make sure we're all back in the groove for the 1st.

What does that mean?

Wrap up the promotional ad type posts...

Hold off on the intros until the 1st if you can...

And start taking up a donation to give the mod money on her Starbucks card :)

Just kidding on the last one.

And here is the first challenge! The community needs a new banner for 2009! I'd love to go for a paisley retro type feel this year, with of course a matching Mod icon. Oranges, greens, purples and browns. Making community icons as well...

Go for it and put your submissions up in the community! Deadline is September 27th, in which time I will announce the winner who's work will get to grace the community for the entire year.

I'll be talking to you all real soon!
