Hi guys! As most of you know, NaNo is literally just right around the corner. Actually, it's just ten days from now, which is even closer than some of us could even imagine. It's usually at this point that one might be freaking out over how they're going to get their word count in. 50K isn't easy and doing it in 30 days is slightly insane.

However, many of us NaNoers have relied on sprints to help us get our word counts up and keep us insane during the month of self imposed isolation!

This year, [livejournal.com profile] allyear_sprints is sponsoring the official sprints of the [livejournal.com profile] nanowrimo community!

What does that mean? How do I sign up? What is a sprint? When do they start? Well all your questions and more will be answered under the cut.

2011 Rules

Oct. 21st, 2011 12:04 am
[identity profile] writingvixen.livejournal.com
Starting now November rules for [livejournal.com profile] nanowrimo officially kick in. Read this post or the community info for a list of them!

Welcome to the National Novel Writer's Month community here on Livejournal! Created back in 2001, and under management of [livejournal.com profile] jupitersings and [livejournal.com profile] writingvixen, this is the longest running NaNo community on LJ!

Rules | Introduction Posts | Daily Word Count | Daily Excerpts | Plot Help | Pimping Thread

ALL NEW MEMBERS: There are two things you need to do before posting:

1. Read the Community Rules.

2. Take a few minutes to read through previous posts. You may find the answer to your question already! (There will be a FAQ's coming Soon)

Community Rules

#1... NO TALKING ABOUT THE NANO WEBSITE. There are countless other communities out there to discuss the website, as well as a twitter if you cannot access the site. http://twitter.com/nanowrimo

#2... INTRODUCTIONS ARE DONE IN THE DAILY INTRO POSTS. - This rule goes on until November 5th, when at that time the vast majority should have introduced themselves. This also means that posts that go on for length about yourself and your project should be contained to your own journal once these posts end on the 5th. Introduction posts will begin next week.

#3... RESPECT - Especially the mods and our rules. ;)

#4... NO SPAM - If you went to post to the community, it needs to be a contribution, or a question. Icons, things to help people along, something you found online that has been helping keep you motivated. Posting about your project with nothing more than self promotion will be seen as spam and deleted, with a comment to use the pimping thread for that.

#5... POSTING OF INDIVIDUAL WORD COUNTS IS NOT PERMITTED. As with the handy dandy Intro posts, there will be Daily Word Count threads. You can reply there with your meters, your text counts, your frustrations with your falling behind and only have 35 words written on November 16th, etc.
EXCEPTION TO RULE #5 - When you DO hit your 50K, you are allowed to post your victory in your own individual post. Why, you ask? Because I believe that everyone deserves their 15 minutes of glory, and you've had to put up with consolidated posts for 2 months, so SOMETHING has to be for individual shining.

#6... EXCERPTS POSTS - If you'd like to post an excerpt for your story please do it in one of our Daily Excerpt Posts. The only exception to this is the Plot Help thread.

#7... ADVERTISING - Advertising other writing communities or NaNo AIM rooms or anything outside this community either needs to be in the pimping thread OR approved by the mods.

And as always, the rules are subject to change due to the needs of the community and the mod.

So what are you waiting for? Come on in and get writing already!

I hope you guys are enjoying your plotting time during October. This month is just going to fly by and before you know it, Nano will be here!

I'm setting up this post as a general reference post. Do you have a website you use to help you with writing that's become invaluable? Have you found some informative research in the dark corners of the internet and you have a gut feeling someone else might need it? Then this is the post to share away.

What to do:

In the Subject write the general concept of the page your linking to and in the body of the comment and include any pertinent information.

If you wind up finding a suggested website useful, let the original poster know by replying with a simple thanks or adding your own two cents. This post is only as valuable as we as a community make it, so make it great!

Questions? See the first two comments. :)

NANO WORKSHOP TONIGHT!

When?: 8-11pm EST
Where?: NanoPlotting on AIM
Host?: JupiterSings86

With NaNo only 25 days away now is as good a time as ever to start preparing... or at least hang out with some other writers and pretend to prepare! Tonight I will be hosting a chatroom on AIM to discuss NaNo, Plots, Characters, and anything else you may want to brush on.
As the month progresses each week will have one of these Plot rooms, so if you can't make it this week feel free to come another time.
Don't have/use aim? That's okay! I'll be posting a help/ question thread the following day after every workshop for the people who couldn't make it in.

HAPPY OCTOBER!

Hi Everyone! One of your friendly Mods here!
It's hard to believe it's been almost a year since last NaNoWriMo. Can you guys believe it's already October? I am still wondering where Spring went and it's already Fall! Being the well prepared person that I am, I haven't even considered what I will be writing for NaNo. :3

Are you in the same boat as me? Or are you one of those weird people who actually plan things in advance? Starting soon we will begin posting more things to help you plan, organize, freak out... etc. We've got friending memes, plot advice, Introduction Posts, and many other things planned for not only November, but October as well!

The first of these "events" will take place THURSDAY from 8-11PM EST in the AIM chatroom NANOPLOTTING. We will be there to talk about general NaNo worries, plot help, support, encouragement. It's still almost a month away, but now is as good a time as ever to start getting prepared for it! Come on in, make some new friends, and talk about our favorite writing challenge of the year!

-Jupiter

p.s. Soon we will be posting the rules and formal welcome for the community this year, so keep an eye out for those!
