Outline

I just finished the 10-chapter outline for my novel.  I left chapter 9 blank, so I can insert whatever I need to when I get towards the end of the story to make it wrap up.

Also, I only have 8 characters listed, which I'm really happy about.  When I'm slightly stuck, I tend to introduce a random, new character who promptly falls to the wayside.

I'm excited about tomorrow but I'm incredibly nervous.  I'm really proud of my idea; I'm not sure I've ever written something like this before.  It'll still have my normal flare (I hope) and it's still in my main genre (Fantasy).  So, we'll see.  I won't know until I do it, right?  Right.

Thanks for the pep talk.

PS - What type of pre-writing does everyone else do?  Does it help?

Well if you missed tonight's sprint plotting room, you missed a really great time. We got a lot of plotting done and had a great time sprinting some plot exercises. Because I know not everyone could make it due to time and various schedules, I wanted to post the exercises here and how long we spent on each. Feel free to try them out on your own time and dive deep into how you're going to ROCK YOUR NANO.

If these work great for you, let me know. I'd love to hear it.

I hope you guys are enjoying your plotting time during October. This month is just going to fly by and before you know it, Nano will be here!

I'm setting up this post as a general reference post. Do you have a website you use to help you with writing that's become invaluable? Have you found some informative research in the dark corners of the internet and you have a gut feeling someone else might need it? Then this is the post to share away.

What to do:

In the Subject write the general concept of the page your linking to and in the body of the comment and include any pertinent information.

If you wind up finding a suggested website useful, let the original poster know by replying with a simple thanks or adding your own two cents. This post is only as valuable as we as a community make it, so make it great!

Questions? See the first two comments. :)

Hey guys! Anyone looking at the calendar and getting sweaty palms? Just me? Okay. Well hopefully this thread will help those of us who are panicking out.

So where are you standing? Do you have a plot figured out? Do you need help with characters? Are you completely blank and starting to freak out? Let us know in the comments. Then take a gander at what other people are asking. Maybe you can help a friend out and get their hamster wheels turning.

There are five main comments you can reply to:
Plot Help - get help with the overall plot
Character Development - help with characters and characterization
Setting Help - help with the world your characters live
Blank Slate - help if you have no plot and no idea what to do
Anything else - if it doesn't fit in the above categories, it goes here!

Let's plot out Nano '11 and make it the best year ever!

NANO WORKSHOP TONIGHT!

When?: 8-11pm EST
Where?: NanoPlotting on AIM
Host?: JupiterSings86

With NaNo only 25 days away now is as good a time as ever to start preparing... or at least hang out with some other writers and pretend to prepare! Tonight I will be hosting a chatroom on AIM to discuss NaNo, Plots, Characters, and anything else you may want to brush on.
As the month progresses each week will have one of these Plot rooms, so if you can't make it this week feel free to come another time.
Don't have/use aim? That's okay! I'll be posting a help/ question thread the following day after every workshop for the people who couldn't make it in.
