Members who harass others in the chat, through email, Livejournal, Facebook or any other social media will be permanently banned. This behavior is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Our rules have not changed nor relaxed since the end of NaNoWriMo. We ask that you respect our rules and our mods. The goal of the chat is to be a fun and safe space for writers to be creative, support their fellow writers, and write. Thank you.

Greetings! It's me, Mel, one of your 'faithful' *cough cough cough* Nano Mods who just today realized it's nano time. Wowza. Well, I just wanted to let you know that Tami and I will be making posts here soon and getting things organized during October to make way for nano but until then, there is a fun and extra special new announcement I wanted to make.

We now have a facebook.

Announcements will go over there as well as general nano merriment and let's face it, a lot of us are on facebook far more than lj anymore, so here it is, join and have fun. For now it's basically unmoderated, but I'm just going to ask that no pictures get posted to it and follow the same guidelines you would here in this community when it comes to content.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/356974337727721/

Enjoy.

We're not going to do this for every timezone, especially considering the majority of the world has already started, but! I just wanted to wish everyone good luck during this year's NaNo! Just for taking up the gauntlet and attempting the challenge you are amazing.

If you wish to wish other nanoers good luck, feel free to do so in the comments!

Hey Community Members!
Entry: So, usually I leave this community alone from December - September, allowing you all to have free reign (though I do see everything you write in here still) and today, I got a wonderful message that I wanted to share:

Dear Esteemed LJer,
As you may have heard, Live Journal is turning 10 next month—and one of the ways we’re celebrating is by publishing a beautiful anthology that will highlight 100 favorite journals and communities from over the past decade.

That’s why we’re writing: nanowrimo is on our shortlist for possible inclusion in the book! Congratulations!

So, during this week I'm going to be skimming over the community and looking for awesome posts and community moments that we've had in the last few years.

What I'd like from you, my dear wonderful members, is some help. If there was a post or two in the community that you remember from this past year (or further back) that you feel should be memorialized, copy the link to that post in a comment below. I'd love one that sparked some interesting conversation in the comments, or ones that helped a LOT during Nano but aren't comment based threads (like the random plot generators and such)

Deadline is March 13th for you guys, which gives me two days afterwards to wade through them. I look forward to seeing what you guys really enjoyed about the last years and see what we can have stand out as our shining star for this community.

Thank you all again for making this a great place. And see, other people will know too now!

Ok, we hit my ridiculous level today, so I'm going to be starting to bring the rules in effect starting tonight when I actually have time to make up the big rule post of doom that we all love :)

As for individual intro posts...

THEY ARE ON HOLD

Any individual intro posts that go up between now (4pm central time) and the rule posting tonight will get a nudging reminder that they are now no longer allowed to be done on an individual basis.

Starting tomorrow (I'm in TN, so I will post it before I go to bed tonight really at like 11:30pmish...) We will have a DAILY INTRO POST in which everyone who wants to introduce themselves are to reply to with their introductions. And that way others who want to meet the new people only have one place to go.

Need an example? Here's last year's tag and you can see them all.

Also, who started a nasty rumor that they were going to be banned, btw? Because I sure as hell didn't say that no one will be allowed to introduce themselves. It would just be done in a more orderly fashion. *smile*

This weekend, the GREAT LJ NANO REGIONAL FRIENDING THREAD will go live for 2008. No idea what I'm talking about? Here is last year's so you can get a sneak peak at what to expect. It has 3 pages of comments though so dialup people beware.

36 days left... who's getting nervous?

Got any questions? Leave them in comments below and I will get back to them tonight after Supernatural OMG

Dang, it really is getting there, ain't it?

Alrighty, just so we have it down in writing, September is the LAST MONTH that this community is a free forum. After September, we go back into moderated rules.

If you're new to the community, Welcome to the oldest NaNo community on Livejournal. This community has been active since 2001, and I have been the Mod in Charge since 2005. It's a wonderful place to be, a bit strict at times, but I feel that it is a great place to meet other Nano'ers and share in the excitment, stress, sorrow and glory that comes from participating in NaNoWriMo.

Please take a moment to read the rules from last year Here. Not only does it include the group rules, but you will also see other issues that have come up during the months of October and November that we had to discuss. Use this as a guideline as to what is to be expected in the coming months.

For those who are not new and doing NaNo again - Welcome back!

Changes and Such )

So remember this is the last month for free-form posting. October 1st will bring back the consolidation threads, the no-advertisements rule, and the other rules that cut back on the quantity and ups the quality for everyone here.

Any questions? Feel free to message me through LJ's message system.

FOLKS! Please... for my sanity and the love of your fellow LJ'ers...

READ THE COMMUNITY RULES WHEN YOU JOIN THIS COMMUNITY. The link is right in the profile to the list of rules posts. YOU HAVE TO SEE THIS PAGE TO JOIN A COMMUNITY, SO THERE IS NO EXCUSE.

That should be the norm for ANY community you join.

I know NaNo starts tomorrow. I know we're all excited. There has been a HUGE group of people that joined this group today. And the ninja squirrels have been busy, but seriously...

Introductions go in the daily intro post. (I will keep it going until the end of the week to pick up stragglers/late joiners)

Requests for help on plots go in the plot help section.

Anything else I do not mind as long is it's not a pointless "omg I'm so excited" type. Asking for help on resourses, widgets, etc... yes, that's fine and I even encourage it, but please also take a moment to just read the previous posts in the community so see if it's already been asked and answered before you post your request!

Mo might have her hammer, but I'm the one with the professional swordfighting training here. Don't make me go postal... because then there won't be a nice mod :)

Are you suffering from one of these symptoms?

1. Loss of Energy or conviction in activities?
2. Dry or Watery eyes when looking at the computer screen?
3. Frequent urges to just walk around, but no real reason to it?
4. A nasty itchy rash...

ok, kidding about number 4, but seriously.

Welcome to Week 2 Folks! and you thought that the day 3 slump was bad

The Mod trying to be motivating again OMG! )

Remember that everyone who takes the challange is a winner. Those that write only a few hundred or thousand words wrote more than those who said they couldn't do it and never signed up. Shoot for the moon, but if you miss, you'll still end up amoung the stars

OK Folks... just a reminder of the rules that are posted for this journal:

Rules of the Group )

That said, I will add two more, one that should have remain unspoken until now, and one that I am personally making notice of because I am getting tired of seeing certain topics resurface in this group.

A. Respect ALL the people within this community, ESPECIALLY your moderators.

Everyone is here to place nice. NaNo is a stressful time, but you should still be here to have fun. This community exists to help others, to cheer each on, and make new friends. I do NOT like seeing posts that single out specific genres as being "wrong" or "bad", and this includes the fanfiction genre.

I will say this only once. If I see one more post that singles out a group in a derogatory way (and here it has been fanfiction numerous times), I will start removing people from this community. And if I see any more stabs at fanfiction writers in general, I will take personal action to remove you from this group.

My Reasonings, as from the last time this topic came up

And secondly, concerning myself and the other mods... we are here to keep this community in shape. We also have special things we all do for this group that makes it a bit more enjoyable and fun to be a part of. Mo in particular does her Sprints and the daily count posting. I do no appreciate seeing and/or hearing that members of this community disrespect us in posts, chat rooms, and the sprint room.

Remember that membership in this journal is all your own free choice. If you do not like how something is done, you have your own free will to leave. We are not holding you here. But seeing people complain about how we work this group and try to take the group's events into your own hands is NOT acceptable, and in some cases insulting.

B. This group is not a platform for your political/religious/sexual opinions to be displayed to others.

That being said, if you have a topic that is very touchy on this and have it in your excerpt, please go on the side of caution and post the excerpt in your own Lj, and post a link with a warning in the excerpt post. You do not want to have to deal with the fallout that a heated opinion war can cause anymore than we do.

Therefore, This new rule will be added to the community, and I expect it to be followed.

6. Respect the people in this group, even if your opinions differ from theirs. Adult discussion and civil debating is fine. Flaming or rude and unwarrented comments will NOT be tolerated.

That is all. If any of you have comments, feel free to use this post to address them to me and the other mods.
