A Question About Planning

Hi, this my first time to participate in NaNoWriMo and I'm in the middle of planning a story. I was just wondering if it's okay to get suggestions for my story from someone else.  I mentioned the contest to two of my friends and they want to participate. One of my friends asked help with her plot and we exchanged advice on our respective plots. Is that okay?
