The same procedure done, when there is no fetus present, entails putting you completely out with anesthetic. You're in recovery afterwards for the same amount of time you would be if they were doing any other type of surgery and the process leading up to it is identical as for any other surgery. Despite the lack of stitches and cutting, I'd say, yes. (I've had a D&C for other reasons than pregnancy termination. They do use it in some other situations.)
