resignation but resolution

there's no way that I'm going to make nanowrimo requirements, but I guess I shouldn't be too discouraged. Working four jobs and going to school part time, and this only being my first year, I should not have expected to finish. This is where I am currently:

On a good note though, I think I've started what could end up being a great novel. So, no matter what, I'm determined to finish it. Here is the passage I just finished. I really like the way it sounds. Let me know what you think:

We walked in the main door of the house and into a giant front room. The ceiling of the front room was at the full height of the two story house. I looked up, and there was an open pathway going from left to right crossing over a hallway directly in front of me. I imagined Annie as a child pressing her face against the railing watching as her parents entertained guests in the front room. The house was older than the architecture my suggest, and I got the feeling that many children before had eagerly leaned against that railing to see who had come in the front door. Even then, it felt like anyone and anything that had ever lived in that house before had lined up to peer over and see who the house's latest daughter had brought home for the holidays.

It's okay to admit defeat once in a while - it sounds like overall the experience was good for you even without winning!
