Eep.

So, my little spare time has been consumed by cardio and weight training. I'm well on my way to my weight-loss goals, but I...um...haven't started my novel yet.

What is the farthest you veterans have gotten behind and still won? I could use some pep talky-ness.

Well I don't remember how it went for me back when I won in 2003, but I do know that if it really comes down to it, I can turn out between 8k and 10k in one (non-showering, non-school-going, tv-dinner-eating, very painful) day. That varies from person to person of course, but I think most people can make up a couple thousand words a day if that deadline really starts looming.

Being behind won't kill your chances, I promise. Just keep digging!

Ah, here we go

I just dug out my NaNo report card from that year - looks like I went 4 and 5 days at a time without writing anything, alternating with a few high-turnout days, all through the month. Slow and steady works, but playing catch-up can really rev the adrenaline!

Do you hve a plot? CArry a notebook with you, and write in between bouts of cardio and weight training. BTW, thanks for remoinding me, i wanted to keep a notebook in the bathroom for this purpose, too.

Last year I did not start until the 13th and made it to 51k by the 30th. A few days is nothing. Just have confidence in your abilities as a writer and it will happen in no time.

Just remember the NaNo mantra ... it's not quality, it's totally about quantity. Yeah, it may be taken out later, but still, just type away ... I echo [livejournal.com profile] nanofluffmo, my experience last year (as a first timer), I had a string of days I didn't write (can we say week two, anyone?) and then came back with a vengeance with a few high word count days. It helped tremendously, and my god, it's a wild ride!

Also, if you can and have AIM, participate in some of the word sprints they're great for pushing up word count (I type quickly, but I was able to boost 3k in an hour's time because of those things ...)

Good luck! Keep doing it. Even if you don't get to 50k by Nov. 30, you're still doing something you obviously have faith in and care about ...

RAH RAH [livejournal.com profile] agreenbunny can do it!

(don't make me break out the cheerleading outfit ... it's scary!) ;)

Well, last year I fell about 20K or so behind during the third week then did marathon bursts with little or no sleep to catch up. Most of the last few chapters are an incoherent jumble of stuff no one can make heads or tails off, but managed to break my previous record.

on November 30th last year, I was over 20,000 words behind. I started at 12:05am and by 11:30 that night, I was over 50,000. Believe in the impossible. :)
