JaNoWriMo, anyone?

Hello, friends!

I worked out a good chunk of a new storyline in The Dragon Alliance for NaNo this year. It's still not done, as I've had to focus on the house all December to make up for November's lack of doing darn near anything. Things are settling down now...and I think I'm going to do JaNoWriMo. I really want to bust out my apocalyptic survivalist/prepper story, Neon Giraffe (working title). The husband is a bit disappointed that I did The Dragon Alliance for the second year in a row, as he's apparently pretty excited about the Neon Giraffe idea. So looks like I'll have some good support at home if I try to get cracking on this thing next month.

I posted to the [livejournal.com profile] janowrimo community yesterday, but no one's posted there since 2010, and I've gotten no response yet. I had better luck on my FB, where I've recruited a couple of friends to do it with me, and a few more are contemplating it.

NaNo works for me primarily because of all the support & camaraderie. I'd love to give it another go if anyone wants to join us! I will even 'cheat' and say go ahead and finish/edit/polish up your NaNo if you prefer. I'm just looking for folks who might want to write together for a while again. Please let me know! Thanks!

Sounds like a great idea. I'm a long way from finishing my book, and though I've worked on it in Dec, like many others, Dec gets eaten up doing what didn't get done in November and preparing for the holidays. I'll have a week and a half off for Christmas, so we'll see how much I get done then.
So I guess this a tentative commitment, lol. I'll jump over to janwrimo and join it. Its the deadline/goal that works the most for me, so setting up this sort of thing is probably the best way for me to finish this monster!

I'm willing to give it a go, for sure. My novel is so far from done it's hilarious, really, and I've been thinking about it the last few days, but I keep putting it off because I still have so many Christmas presents to finish.

I can't swear up and down I'll be around all of January to do it, though, but I'll probably have most of the month: My Boy is re-enlisting in the Army and we'll probably be uprooted and moved by the end of January, but yes. Count me in.

I'm going to be writing in January -- I've entered in for WriYe (http://wriye.proboards.com/index.cgi) with my own personal writing target and plans for the whole year (I've got a series of stories I really want to get at least a first draft of).

[identity profile] eien-herrison.livejournal.com 2012-12-17 02:48 pm (UTC)(link)
The good thing is that you can set your own goal with WriYe (there is a 50k minimum though) -- I think that if you signed up you could say your goal is 100k, write 50k in January and 50k in November, that'd be fine as it averages out over the whole year*.

Good luck :)

(*I've had this semi-confirmed as my average per month is over my minimum thanks to doing 1k a day every month except November -- the average would be just over 32k -- but if I keep the pace I should hit my goal by the end of the year.)

I would participate too!

[identity profile] freaky-nea.livejournal.com 2012-12-17 04:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd be a NaNo!rebell again and use the NaNo!spirit to finish some WIP... My icon really says it all

[identity profile] freaky-nea.livejournal.com 2012-12-17 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course! I just don't remember who created it, but it wasn't me.

I didn't get to do Nanowrimo, so I think I will attempt Jan!

Count me in

[identity profile] legoheadprince.livejournal.com 2012-12-17 02:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm definitely in.

[identity profile] meketserqet.livejournal.com 2012-12-17 03:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I would be down for at least trying! I'm going on a week-long vacation the end of January so the 50k is probably out of reach, but even attempting to hit it is more than I'm doing right now! XD

[identity profile] meketserqet.livejournal.com 2012-12-17 06:39 pm (UTC)(link)
hahaha, so true! i know at least one Nano where i would have loved that one extra day... XD

[identity profile] lurkch.livejournal.com 2012-12-17 03:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll be writing in January. I'm reworking my timeline (for my story) this month and figuring out missing scenes and such so I can write my 'Less Shitty Draft' next month.

[identity profile] alicia-h.livejournal.com 2012-12-17 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I might not be doing a brand new or full length nano in January but I'll be doing research for and working on two previous nano novels. I'm also writing a 10K story that links those two novels for a challenge at a writing comm I'm part of, though the deadline for that is the end of February.

So I'm up for joining in for the Nano levels of motivation and having people to share the joys and woes of a month of writing with, but I don't know yet if I'll be aiming for 50K or just seeing how much I can get done. :-)

I'm in. And as a head's up, the chatzy room is still open and they do do sprints during the rest of the year. I've been lurking in the room with a few others. They take December off (for obvious reasons), but sprints should start back up in the near future.

[identity profile] frea-o.livejournal.com 2012-12-17 04:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Count me in. I've got more work to finish and could use another commitment that's not in November. Worst month for Nanowrimo or WORST month for Nanowrimo? You decide. :)

[identity profile] ladyseraph-756.livejournal.com 2012-12-17 04:44 pm (UTC)(link)
count me in. I posted on the other comm but I thought I'd better post it here as well. I'm going to be a rebel and do a fanfic, if that's alright?

Hey, feel free to stop by [livejournal.com profile] dz_writing if you're looking for motivation and oomph. :D We just formed and are always looking for new people. :)

[identity profile] llblckraincloud.livejournal.com 2012-12-17 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Lol its not an rpg you just earn rewards like one. Its a community focused on making goals and meeting them. Everything else is just for fun. :)

I dont know yet if im doing janowrimo. I have to look over my january goals and go from there. I probably will though.

[identity profile] llblckraincloud.livejournal.com 2012-12-17 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, feel free to lurk. There arent any activity requirements. :) you can see how it all works.

[identity profile] waldenwriter.livejournal.com 2012-12-17 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I would be interested. I want to try to do the CreateSpace thing so I'd need to have my book done by June I think. And while I did reach 50k during NaNo, like you, my novel is far from done.

[identity profile] sushimustwrite.livejournal.com 2012-12-17 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Have you checked out the Jannowrimo site? (http://janno.ymakadomain.com/forum/index.php)

[identity profile] somewhatlacking.livejournal.com 2012-12-17 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm totally participating! :) So glad to see others are also interested...

I'll head over to that community and see if I can't help breathe some life back into it.

[identity profile] mycha-miska.livejournal.com 2012-12-17 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I really like the idea! I'd use it to work on editing my novel from November, but I'm finding it hard to carve out the time to work on it. For whatever reason, the sprints in Nov. really got me into the habit of making myself write something for at least two hours a day every day.

[identity profile] rsn-studios.livejournal.com 2012-12-18 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
I'm game! I am planning on doing the LJ 90 days novel challenge starting on January 1st to begin with, and this will motivate me to get off to a great start!

[identity profile] febobe.livejournal.com 2012-12-18 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
I might be in! Will try and join the community and try to post as soon as I dig out from under this revision and house problems. :P
