I found out about NaNoWriMo a couple of years ago, from [livejournal.com profile] anexstacy, who suggested I should try it. I was interested, but by the time I got around to looking into the idea, it was too late.

Last year I actually did it, and wrote the initial draft of my first complete novel, [livejournal.com profile] umbra_mortis, finishing on 28 November (at 52,049 words).

I haven't a clue what I'm going to write about this year, but I do intend to give it another go.

In an absolutely transparent display of my own ego, I'm going to subject you all to yet another introduction to someone you a) will most likely never meet in your life and b) probably don't care about either. May my rambling about myself somehow enhance your day anyway.

This will be my second year in NaNoWriMo, and hopefully the first year I succeed. I got involved almost halfway through last November, and while I made up time nicely, it just wasn't enough. However, if I can get to 40,000 in a little over two weeks, one would hope 50,000 in four would not be an issue. Granted my life is much more hectic this year, but that's the challenge of the thing.

And this time I shall be prepared. I have my setting. I have my cast. I have my genre, my format, my ideas all outlined in a battered little notebook where I keep most ponderings of a creative nature confined. Ah yes, I am set with most everything required to piece together a viable story, except that I have no plot. Tell November to wait a bit, I need some time to think.

(As an aside: my boyfriend, who never knows what I'm doing on LJ, would like to say "Hello World" to whomever I'm writing for.)

Well, there's always the hope that one or more writers from this community will become famous, and the rest of us can say "We knew them from their LJ posts back when!"

I'm Evan (as the more observant among us would deduce from my ID). I did my first nanowrimo last year in Anchorage, I'm back home in Portland, Oregon for this year's novel. One of my ongoing projects is a humorous advice column, www.AskDrEldritch.com, which answers letters about situations faced by characters in fiction, like superheroes, arch villains, strange creatures, and ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances. This mythical columnist, Dr. Eldritch, has been the subject of a couple short stories as a paranormal trouble-shooter, and I'm planning on using him as a main character in this year's novel. The favored idea right now is a young-adult horror story about suburban kids realizing that creatures from their dreams are roaming their neighborhood, but there's still forty days to be insecure about it...

I'm also just started a screenwriting class, with a completed screenplay due Dec. 4th. I'm hoping this will inspire me to maintain a steady and organized writing schedule, but more likely means I'll get no sleep the last week of November.

Good luck, everyone!

Exercise of the Day - Where you time yourself to write for 5 minutes about the topic of the day. And today's topic is Stopwatch. Feel free to post it in your journal and then comment with a link to the entry or just type it out here. =)

Good luck! And have fun!

Hi, all! I might as well join in with my own greetings.

I'm really looking forward to NaNo this year. It'll be my second year attempting - last year I wrote 38k in the last week and a half, but this year I'll start out at the beginning. I've got an idea for a YA fantasy novel planned... Of course, who knows what I'll really be doing on Nov. 1st? But that's half the fun of NaNo!

To keep me by I've been writing a science fiction novel that's getting waaay too big. I've also been hanging out on fmwriters.com and dabbling in the Harry Potter fandom, but I'm really looking forward to NaNo.

Only a few weeks left to wait!

I may as well do my intro as well:

This is my third year of NaNoWriMo, and second as a Municipal Liaison (PA: elsewhere -- meaning just about everything except Philadelphia and Pittsburgh). I've managed to reach my 50K goal both of my previous years, even while on vacation with my kids. However, with some added stress and duties this year, I'm wondering where I'll find the time. As to plot or anything else, I didn't start with one other years, so why ruin a good thing?

For anyone who wants to stay in touch, this is my regular LJ. The writing journal is [livejournal.com profile] nanovix, though I usually use it only during October and November.

I might as well make an introduction, too. I'm [livejournal.com profile] crawfrordwraith, and I think I introduced myself a long time ago, back when I first joined this community, but I think I'll do it again.

Hi, my name is [livejournal.com profile] crawfordwraith, and I am insane. ^_^

This will be my third year doing NaNo (hopefully my third year winning NaNo), and I'll be doing it while going to school and working. Did I mention that I was insane? Most likely I'll be writing part three of the story that I wrote parts one and two of the last two years, but maybe I'll take a break. Who knows?

Anyway, nice to see so many people interested in this thing, and good luck to all of us, eh?

I introduced myself in [livejournal.com profile] nanowrimo04 yesterday, so I s'pose I ought to introduce myself here...

2004 is my third year doing NaNoWriMo and, I hope, the first year I'll win. I made it to all of 1200 words in 2002; in 2003 I made it to about 23,500 but in the end the demands of working full-tme and being in school part-time took their toll. I do plan to go back to both of those projects, though. This year, I not only am not in school but, due to a maternity leave, had to push my scheduled vacation time from August to November.

This year I'm fleshing out and working on something that came to me as a very vivid and recurring dream. So far I've only got the first scene and the name worked out. It's set in a post-World War III time and involves the main creator of the biological weapons trying to redeem himself by spreading antidotes.

I still need a real conflict and I've been out searching for one because I do like to at least have an outline while I am writing (I don't always stick to it). I think I've got a strong enough setting and good characters; as soon as I have a plot it should fall into place. I hope...

My writing can be found at [livejournal.com profile] nanoria. It's a friends-only journal because I have had some plagiarism problems, but if you join it and tell me who you are, chances are I will add you.

I'm looking forward to it!

Just another obligatory introductory note! I'll be a first time NaNoWriMo-er this year, trying to put down the first installment of an urban fantasy that's been bouncing around my head for over a year. I've seen a few friends of mine referencing the daily 5-minute prompts on this site, so I thought it would be a good warmup over the next month!
