Hello fellow Wrimos!

This is my second year doing NaNo. I won last year, my husband went away for Thanksgiving Weekend and I wrote 22,000 words in four days. I'm hoping to go about things in a much more sane way this year.

I can't decide what to write, though. I've been noodling this for a month and I'm down to an original fantasy idea (a bit of a mystery/fantasy hybrid with a world that, best I can describe it, has the sociopolitical system of Imperial Rome, the look and technology of early Victorian England, and is high-magic low-"critters") and two fanfiction ideas. One of my fanfiction ideas is Stargate SG-1 (entirely concerned with the Goa'uld and their culture) and the other is Star Wars (Sith focus, TPM-era). The three are about even in terms of worldbuilding, and the two fanfic ideas will take the most prepwork. I wrote original fantasy last year, so I'm not sure I want to write another fantasy this year, although I like the idea I have.

I'm glad I still have a couple of weeks in which to make up my mind! :)

For the third time in a row I am attempting Nanowrimo with the insane hope that this year, this year I may actually complete the damn thing.
Except of course my profile is playing up and I can't edit it for some reason so all the information there is as wrong as it could be. darn it. Could be my comp as Livejournal playing up as well...

User name: Purple Ink
Working title: Haunting
Working Blurb: Ken Eskan starts at St Sebastian's Boarding School halfway through the autumn term with only the promise he had made to his parents keeping him from repeating what had caused him to leave his last school so abruptly, but meeting Mark Fell the President, and only member, of the school's Paranormal Club threatens Ken's attempt at quiet obscurity.

How much worse would it be if they had to set something up so we could start writing and there were delays? Argh, that'd stink!

There are several things I cannot do with the new nanowrimo website. For one, I can't search the registered users to find my friend... and when I tried searching through the names in a pm window, she wasn't there, but she has registered. There also isn't a "recent topics" link at the top of the forums page like there used to. You cannot select an option to always be logged in, which isn't a big deal, but it's a little bothersome to have to log in everytime.

It's a nice new layout, but a lot of things are missing. Will they be slowly coming back, or are they just gone? Most of the newness, I don't understand at all.

Is there a Nanowrimo LJ icon community out there? I'm interested in finding some Nano icons but lack the skills to make them myself, so I was wondering if there was a community like that out there.

Hopefully this will push me to turn these boxes of notes into a novel.

If not, at least the chaotic whimpering will entertain.

Steal my icon, please.

Greetings wrimos!

Here is another quick blurb about what tools and tricks helped me last year, and might help some of you. (Previous tip about MICE is here.)

Now that you have figured out what type of story you are writing (Milieu, Idea, Character, or Idea) perhaps you have some ideas about what goes in the Beginning, Middle and End. Now is the time to flesh that out.
