I must be nuts

I discovered NaNoWriMo yesterday. Today I join this community. I must be nuts.
Much like another poster here, I have written fan fiction in the Harry Potter universe, though my longest effort has been in the neighborhood of 34,000 words. Of course, that was done over the span of two weeks and included basic revisions. I have five stories in the range of 26,000-34,000 words, so I don't think 50,000 in one month will be much more difficult.
What will be more difficult is this: I don't plan to write my NaNoWriMo novel in the Harry Potter universe.
I have written over 30 Harry Potter stories. Most of them were very fluffy, but a select few (maybe 8) were real departures. Oddly enough, these are the ones I'm most proud of. Though I like what I've done in the Potterverse, I know that if I have any hope of entertaining a fleeting notion of becoming anything more than a amateur, hobbyist writer, I have to branch out on my own and leave the Potterverse behind. Harry Potter and co. will always belong to JKR. I have to find my own world to inhabit.
As it turns out, I have already been hit with a plot bunny. I'm sure it will continue to form until November 1. As it is with many of you, I'm sure, it's going to be frustrating waiting until November 1 to get started. But wait I shall.
Also, I'm going to participate in NaNoBlogMo if they run it this year, so anyone who's interested can keep up with my progress. I'm trying to find out if I can do my blog on LJ instead of blogger. We'll see.
Good luck to everyone!
PS: No, I don't look anything like Laurence Fishburne. I'm not even African-American. I just like the way Morpheus carries himself in the Matrix: Calm, Cool, and in Control. I've so very much not like me most of the time... :)
