Help?

I am at the point of the novel where I have to have a clear grasp on my characters in order for me to continue, and the problem is that I don't have it at all! I have a vague outline of their personalities and quirks and motives, but nothing solid. So I'm asking for help here. Could you guys help me see my characters better by giving me some questions that would illuminate their personalities? Like, "what would they do if they're stuck in traffic for the next five hours?", or "what do they do when they're bored?" or "what kind of food do they like?" That way this'll force me to consider their actions specifically, I think. Thanks!
