Just wanted to say hello! My name is Tina-Marie, and this is my first NaNoWriMo, but I'm unbelievably excited about it! No clue yet what I'm going to write, but I think that's part of the fun of all this...

I'm 21, a last semester student at American University in Washington DC, and a Borders Books and Music slave, so if anyone in the area is up for writing together, we have a gaurenteed home! Anyway, drop me a note sometime :)

I was just wondering what everyone's writing goals are -- not for nanowrimo (because that's obvious ;) ), but in general.

Are you writing a book with the goal of getting it published? Or are you just going to write it and take it from there? Is this the first book you've written? Have you ever tried to get anything published before?

It took me four years, two books, three agents, and a lot of crying over rejection letters before my book sold (if you're interested in reading the whole story, it's on my website at www.laurenbarnholdt.com under "for writers"), so I'm always really interested in other people's journeys!

Hi everyone!  My name is Myrrh, I live in Arizona, and this is my second Nano.  I'm really looking forward to cheering everyone on.  *waves at everyone*

I looking for opinions on writing with a shifting POV.  Usually I write in first person only, sticking with one character throughout.  This year's story, however, would be impossible to write this way because the MC is a severely disturbed young girl who doesn't speak at all and no one knows what she is thinking (possibly she will speak near the end, but I haven't decided yet.)

The story falls into three sections.  Part of the way into part one, the POV switches from third person (objective) to first person (the MC's Aunt.)  Part two is mostly first person (the MC's Cousin) with a few third person chapters.  The third part will be totally first person, alternating between the Cousin and MC.

Does this sound like it would be too confusing for a reader to follow?

hi, my name's alison. i'm currently living in chapel hill, nc. i'm 22. i graduated from william and mary in may. i work at a coffeeshop. i figure i have a place to sit and unlimited coffee to keep me creative.

i just decided like 4 days ago to do nanowrimo. until then i had never thought about writing a novel or even fiction of any great length. i tend to gravitate toward essays and editorials. i'm not sure entirely that my imagination will be able to keep me afloat, but i suppose i can always fall back on autobiography in a pinch.

more than likely none of you will ever read my nanovel. it'll more than likely suck a lot. but i maintain hope, and this is more of an experiment to see how i deal with fiction-writing and such an intense deadline.

i was mostly wondering if anyone else was moving from a non-fiction genre to a fiction one or from short stories to lengthier pieces. get back at me.

Okay, so I am starting to do my research for my nano. I am having issues! Does anyone know a good source that will give you a scientific analysis of ways a person could die? Like, what is going on in their body, what they feel physically?

Also, does anyone have the Vampire Encyclopedia? Does it have a bunch of vampire stories or actual vampire related deffinitions?

Hey folks, this is [livejournal.com profile] thefaeway and I've come bearing a new title and a new outline. My original title, Uai, would just not work the way I wanted it to, and the outline was a bit here and there. So, here we go!

NaNo 2005

Sasha is a play-hero on a weekend trip to the local caves. Taryn is her not-so-magical faerie sidekick. When they return, their village has been destroyed - and many are lying dead or dying. The local wise sage only has two things to say to Sasha...

"Solve for Y"
"Follow the Tisa!"

The Tisa is the river that runs from the mountains, down through the valley by their village, and continues on to The Edge of the World. It is a common place for strange folk, including wisened monks and strange dock men.

So Sasha and Taryn, along with the cowardly warrior Refus, pack up and head out.

What's with Y and how will it help them find the people responsible for the destruction of the village? What's really at The Edge of the World?

Join our not-quite heroes as they seek the answers to these questions, and more in:

Follow the Tisa!

If anyone is interested in following along, feel free to head over to [livejournal.com profile] followthetisa - and I am sure a ton of you have NaNo journals as well - I want to follow along with you guys. ^_^

Wow, first, i want to thank all of you who helped me with my earlier post about multiples.

I have some great material to read through.

Now i would like to lay out my characters and my story a little bit.  Unfortunately this will be a bit Spoilerific even though i haven't written any prose yet.

Characters
Jason (protagonist) is a Security Guard for a museum.  He is dating a fellow Security Guard - Sarah.  At the beginning of the story, Jason performs drag at a new night club.  His drag persona, Sapphire Storm, is a very popular performer.  Note that Sapphire is not an additional personality.  Jason has never been diagnosed with multiplicity.

Dean is the antagonist(but is he) of the story.  He is Jason's (currently) sole other personality.  Dean is homosexual, and is seeing Guy, who works at the nightclub where Sapphire performs.

Guy is also an antagonist of the story.  He is an ex con, and one of Dean's former lovers.  I don't currently know much about him.

Sarah is a Security guard & dating Jason.

Wanda is the museum curator.  Her big issue is that she is about to have to file bankruptcy on behalf of the museum.

The Silver Kitten is a female burglar dressed in a gray leotard with cat ears.  The Silver Kitten also refers to an item on display at the museum.

Short Synopsis
When the town museum is robbed on two occasions by a woman disguised as a cat, Wanda is positive that her days as the curator are over. Bankruptcy looms over the Museum, only barely surviving by anonymous donations from the towns citizens. When the painting stolen from the museum turns up on the black market, the authorities turn their eyes to the Museum employees and jobs are at risk.

Long Synopsis )

I have a five week calendar set up with all of my events, on it.  Not all events made it into the synopsis.  Please poke holes.

The greetings: Hi folks. I'm Dreama and I've just discovered this community, though this will be my fifth NaNoWriMo. I'm 4-0 thus far, four novels written (even in 2003 when I ended up in the hospital having emergency surgery during Thanksgiving week, which sucked mightily, I assure you) and this year, I'm going for the challenge of NaNo-ing with a new baby. I've decided that NaNoWriMo is my personal version of masochism; forget chains and whips, give me a 30 day deadline to whip out 50,000 coherent words!

The link: This has helped me a lot over the years of NaNoing, I follow this basic structure every year: Outline Your Novel in 30 Minutes by Alicia Rasley. If you have a basic idea about plot and characters, this will definitely help you to take that idea and turn it into the framework of an actual novel.

The offer: Every year, I whip up desktop wallpaper calendars with a daily word count. In addition to a general one for average NaNo'ers, I do one for NaNo'ers like myself who are observant Jews who don't write sundown Friday to sundown Saturday. (Because we like extra challenges like that.) I normally put the wallpapers up on my wallpaper site (natch) but since my website is offline for the time being, I can't do that this year. If people are interested, though, I can certainly share them here for folks to download.

Please comment if you'd be interested; if people aren't, I won't bother with the general version, because frankly, they're a lot of work!

I've been trying to push my nano plot into the realms of darkness. Urban dark sort of weird pyschological lit fic thriller with apocalyptic overtones.

It was going well. "Too well," he thought.

It had been a dark plot from day one, really dark, like some massive dark thing from space falling to earth in your garden, making a mess of the lawn, forcing your neighbours to come out and say, "Wow! That thing is dark...".

So I needed a religious figure for various reasons and I'd been messing about with some characters and I've come up with... a comedy Irish priest! This is unexpected. Now my plot's going all light and tongue-in-cheek, and the MC is laughing when he should be crying out in existential torment. I'm not even sure if comedy is allowed in nano.

Dammit. I'll be making up a plot from scratch between the hours of 11pm and midnight on the 31st, I can just see it.

First time poster & first time nanowrimo-er. This will actually be the first time I've written fiction for about two years (though I used to be short story writer like crazy), because I've gotten into the poetry scene more. I wrote a novella a long time ago but generally I just don't have the stamina to write something really long -- I get bored. However, I think I have a good idea that will be a bit off the walls and not cut-and-dry novel-ish.

Yeah, not much else to say, just wanted to say hi. So hi!
[identity profile] thefaeway.livejournal.com
I went and mucked up one of my characters. I gave her the name Mary, when in another story of mine there is a girl with very similar characteristics whose name is Marilea.

When I realized how similar the two had become in character, (different physically, of course), I felt I had to rename Mary.

Problem is, I didn't know what to name her! So I went to a website that had names associated with the culture I identified Mary with, and took a few of the prettier (to me) names.

Now I ask if you fine folks of NaNo world would hop in behind this little cut, and vote on your favorite as well?

Well, I've been lingering around here since last year, I don't post all that much as I tend to get a little side tracked around here during the day as things get a little chaotic and busy at times. So I figured I might as well go ahead and introduce myself. I'm a 30 year old married mom of 3 kids and I've pretty much been writing my entire life, minus the 10 year writer's block I ended up getting after finnishing highschool, but last year's nanowrimo took care of that :D

I entered last year, starting 5 days into November when I just happened to come across Nanowrimo, was the first time I'd ever heard of it and decided to give it a try. I hadn't written anything more than a page or two (before giving up) in over 10 years, and so I was very happy last year when I reached the goal of 50,000.

I'm not sure yet what I'm going to write about, I have an idea in my head of doing a remake of Sleeping Beauty, perhaps a modern day time travel fantasy thing. I'm hoping to do a little more brainstorming and thinking later on tonight, listen to some music and maybe get a few more ideas flowing.

I'm pretty determined to win again this year, I can't write too much during the day, as my kids keep me pretty busy, but I figure I managed to win last year when my twins were only about 5 months old, I can easily do it again this year. It helps that I'm a nighthawk and enjoy staying up late at night, not to mention the fact I NEED to stay up late, in order to get in my own ME time, or else I'd probably go crazy lol. So November, Bring it on!

Er- hello, all! I'm Sam, a newbie to the community, and I'm a first time NaNoWriMo-er. I'm rather looking forward to it, though I still haven't a clue what to write about. >_< I'm a fanfiction reader/editor/author by trade, so original fiction with completely new characters (whom I'll have to develop myself - *gasp*) and no reference plot is going to be something very different for me. And very challenging.

But even if I do wind up half-crazed by the end of November, it's all in the spirit of the month! :P I was glad to find this community - I'll definitely be checking it out for tips and all that sort of thing and probably posting bits of writing for feedback and all.

Hope to get to know some of you better through the coming months!

Hi, guys, found this comm the other day and now I've decided to introduce myself.

It's pathetic but I actually just found out what NaNo was about two weeks ago. I'd heard my sister talking about it for ages and knew it had something to do with writing, I'd just never known what. So I decided to find out and I was intrigued, so I signed up. :D

I currently have no plot for my novel, which is also nameless (gah, not good) and have two characters, Ava Linnet and Vegas Solitaire. It's a humor novel, sort of Good Omens-esque, yet plot, where art thou? At first I considered something to do with vampires but changed my mind and decided to go with an idea where my main character falls into another world via her bedroom and ended up half-way reinventing Inuyasha.

Now I'm stuck. I want it to deal with the supernatural (vampires, ghosts, angels, circle one) but the plot just eludes me. Also, the only plot points I have at the moment are:

Ava Linnet, an ordinary, 16-year-old girl, meets Vegas Solitaire a (insert supernatural entity), good-guy crook and together, they must (insert plot line). I have no idea why Ava is with Vegas or how she ends up meeting him; I'm thinking a Neverwhere-like plot where it's not her fault she's there and she can't do anything about it and has to tag along to ensure her survival.

But I cannot come up with anything to fill in the blanks. And November the first isn't too far off, so I have to come up with something fast.

Any ideas or help would be so appreciated you just don't know. :D

(But remember, it's a humor novel. So completely unrealistic characters and plots are a must. I have several characters stored away as well, with nothing to do with them, and I'm thinking of introducing them somehow once I actually have a valid plot. :D)

I originally posted here with my main lj, [livejournal.com profile] somelulex, but I just started this writing journal, so I have the community friended here. I did not have a writing journal last year, nor did I post excerpts anywhere. Because I didn't have the journal, and [livejournal.com profile] nanowrimo sort of monopolized my flist anyway, I didn't have anyone else's writing journals friended. This year I'm doing things differently, but I'm wondering if it's a mistake. If I have a writing journal I'm just going to want to write in it about writing, or post excerpts (which will mean lots of agonizing over whether something is good enough to post). If I have other writing journals friended, I'm going to want to read those, and comment, and stay up to date.

In other words, I'm worried I just set myself up with a big fat procrastination and distraction system. I mean, I'm pretty good about making my word count, but I'm very good at wasting time. I guess I'll see what happens.
