Gah, what to do, what to do....Okay.  Going into week 2 now, and my word count is horribly low.  I won't even post the number, that's how bad it is.  :)  I had oral surgery this week, and was hoping to get a jump on things then....but I was soooo drugged up, that all I did was sleep.  Lame.  But vicodin naps are quite lovely!

ANYway.   My plan is, after working today (I have a 6 hour shift), the rest of today and tomorrow is devoted to marathon writing, so as to catch up to where I should be right now.  And now...well, I have a new storyline floating around in my head.  Last night I had this dream, and it was a COMPLETE story - with a plot! - and well-defined characters.  Oddly, my male lead looked like a young Burt Lancaster.  :)   There's no doubt I *will* write out this particular dream/story someday...but should I scrap my other writing, that I'm kind of struggling with, and go with this NEW story that I'm actually excited about?

Argh.  I don't know what to do!  But right now, I have to head to work.  :)

Splurge?

Just curious as to what others may splurge on for themselves if they can hit the 50k goal by the end of the month.

Personally, I have my eyes on the 120GB hard drive for the Xbox 360.  The standard 20GB hard drive has been a bit small for me for quite some time, so I figure that if I can win NaNoWriMo, especially in my first attempt, the overpriced hard drive will be worth the writing effort :-)

Any other anticipated splurges?

In my initial Idea for my Novel, I wanted the entire thing to take place in 5 days for my Characters. The plot beings on Monday and ends on friday. I'm starting to worry that 50K won't fit in such a small scale.

Is it possible to take up 50K words to show only 5 days in the lives of my 6 MCs? Should I try to change the plot to make it stretch out longer, two weeks or maybe a month?

Just realized that I hadn't posted this and it's nearly tiime for me to head to work. My bad! Better late than never!

Ah, the start of the second week. Where things get more, um...interesting. If Week One was all about character creation, Week Two is about finding something to do with all the people milling around in your book. Yes, we're talking plot here, a word that sends a lot of writer needlessly running in fear. Just keep prodding your characters and a plot will set itself in motion this week. Know, though, that the decisions of Week Two will make this the most exhausting of all four weeks.

Also, know that the more you write, the more inspired you are going to feel. If you're feeling a little pokey now, it's because you're not writing enough. Push yourself to write every day, and make a point of adding something to your word count anytime you're within striking distance of a keyboard.

Today's flashcard from the No Plot? No Problem! writing kit, the genius brainchild of Chris Baty.

...*meeps* Thanks for the head's up, Chris!

AIM ROOM: nanosprints
TIME:9pm EST/8pm CST/7pm MST/6pm PST UNTIL 12am EST/11pm CST/10pm MST/9pm PST
WHAT: NaNo sprints! Write as many words as you can during the allotted time, and see how many words other people can manage.

Come and sprint in 10 minute bursts, at the :10, :30 & :50. There will be a 10 minute break between each sprint. That works out to be 30 minutes of sprinting for every hour. If you've read this post, please don't ask when the next sprint will be or how long it will run. I will give a two minute warning before each sprint.

I know the schedule might not work for everyone. If that's true for you, explore other options.

Fun fact: it is actually possible to write without sprinting.

Feel free to come in ahead of time and chat to fellow NaNo'ers.

Any questions, AIM me at 'callita623'.

You can invite yourself! All you need to do is in the menu click AIM/Chat/Buddy chat. Put your name there instead and in the place of room name, put nanosprints. Easy!

Rules are same as always:

- Discuss your novel. Ask people for ideas if you're stuck.
- DON'T discuss religion, politics, lifestyle choices.
- Don't tear each other down. Not on plot choice OR word count.

please remember that while the sprints are taking place there will be no talking as it distracts from the 'stop' time. some have their chats set to blink and the blinks take away from knowing when to stop. if you are asked to stop talking, please do so immediately.

Never, ever be the first to talk in the Sprint room. There MAY be a Sprint going on.

if you live outside the U.S. and are unsure what time this is for you (or inside the U.S. and don't really have a grasp of time zones), please refer to this handy website.

Do you think I still have a good shot at winning the contest if I only start now, eight days later than everyone else?

I really want to share these with all the hard core writers.

Make sure you are stretching your hands, arms and backs so that you don't cramp up and get sore.
