Hi, I'm going to be taking part in this years nanowrimo for the first time.  I usualy write poetry and short one shot stories with a fanfic twist, but saying this I'm really looking forward to getting stuck in and seeing how far I can get in 30 days.

My idea is a historical diary of a young girl through WW2, is that allowed?  How far in the prep can I go before the start on nov 1st?

:D

You guys rock my socks ^.^ I hope you're having fun with this and that the satisfaction of writing complete ficlets is banking up for those November days when everything seems to be conspiring against you.

this will be my second year participating in NaNo, but something is different for me this year. I keep seeing everybody talk about how excited they are, which is great, but I am not excited at all. in fact, I'm dreading it it a lot. you see, I won last year, but it was incredibly painful and made me kind of miserable for the entire month. I expected to have fun, but it was mostly just annoying. I am not sure if this is because of my extensive over-planning (my plan consisted of an Excel character map and an 8,000 word story plan), which is possibly what made the story so boring to me that I wanted to kill them all (and perhaps that was why I found it so difficult and annoying), or if it's because I am just not into writing a lot in a short period of time and therefore should not put myself through this again.

right now, I'm planning on participating and planning out my story with a LOT less detail, but I really don't know if participating at all is a good idea. I think the only thing I'm clinging to is the novel I will ostensibly have at the end of the month.

so, I was hoping you guys could offer some perspective. has anybody else experienced similar feelings of dread and avoidance before November even comes around? have any of you made yourselves miserable by over-planning, and if so, was it more fun the next year when you didn't plan so much? most importantly, should I expect similar misery this November, or is it possible this will be fun for me in some way?

EDIT: thanks for all the great advice, everyone! I feel better about this now, and I think I will try not writing down any plans at all this time around. and if that doesn't work, I will try this "quitting" thing everyone is talking about. :)

Post your daily introduction here!
We love getting to know each other, and it's a great way to meet new friends!

Also, sorry I haven't had this up in a few days. My computer and internet have been giving me grief, and LJ just informed me none of my posts have been posting.

Hi, this my first time to participate in NaNoWriMo and I'm in the middle of planning a story. I was just wondering if it's okay to get suggestions for my story from someone else.  I mentioned the contest to two of my friends and they want to participate. One of my friends asked help with her plot and we exchanged advice on our respective plots. Is that okay?

Okay, here's my questiopn: Can you (or me, whoever) can we write scenes. Like, a whole bunch of interrelated scenes, sketching a novel, I guess. I'm good with individual scenes. Not so much with "the big picture". I'm just thinking, if no one really knows what you write, they can't really judge you. And, at editing time, or if NaNo is still on, I could connect hem into the big picture...?

I honestly don't know if that made sense, but... This is my first NaNo, and I'm kinda iffy about participating. School is going to get the way ALOT, and I won't have computer access at school, so I couldn't directly work on it. That's where the scene idea came from.
