Advice please!

Hello all!

So it's early morning of day 12, but I'm going to call it 11.5 since it is so early.

I'm behind and stuck. I have two possible outcomes for where I am and I have no clue which one to use.

What was originally going to happen was one character was going to be a Jerkass who was on the side of the Evil Matriarch who would eventually I guess get a Karmic Death though I hadn't really thought that part through.

What's happened is I've wound up with a Parental Substitute who's out to marry the Evil Matriarch in order to give the main character someone who cares about him.

Clearly I can't have that. So here's my two options.

Run him through Death By Sex as inflicted by Evil Matriarch and leave him as a Dead Guy On Display for the Main Character to find and be trauma'd for life and rob him of the only Nice Guy in the whole clan.

Then there's option two which is have him go Dark Side after a bout of Sex Makes You Evil possibly crossed with More Than Mind Control which would eventually lead to him regretting it all and going through Redemption Equals Death.

And then of course I could Take a Third Option and go with zombies as a friend suggested.

So the deal is, which of the two (or three) options will give me the best word count? Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I know I post here at least once every day, but I've hit a snag again.

So I have myself a Five Man Band (Hades, Poseidon, Bastet, Loki and Icarus), Sixth Ranger (Sekhmet) and Team Pet (Indy/Cerberus) who have themselves in a situation. Persephone's been kidnapped, Hades has been stripped of his powers for what happened at Pompeii, and currently regrouping at Hera's apartment to decide what they need to do.

But...my ideas stop here. I already have an idea for Hades to face some trials with backup support, but no clue on what those are going to be so I need suggestions for that as well. And of course the final battle between Hades and my Big Bad for Persephone. Nothing is coming to me. I thought about moving onto another scene but I want to solve this problem first.

Plot ideas/points:
* Loki size shifting Indy/Cerberus, rather than individual Pegasi or whatever.
* I contemplated putting Hades through sword training, but I don't know how long that might take for him to master the basics and they need to rescue Persephone NOW.
* I have no idea how they're going to track her/the Big Bad down, I only know that they end up in the Asphodel Meadows of the Underworld, and that's it.
* Trials. Need ideas for trials (something akin to what Hercules did or similar?)

Help with any of these ideas would be great!

"Dialogue" with a mute character?

I remember being taught in elementary/primary school that when a different character speaks, start a new paragraph.  I'm wondering how that works when one of the characters involved in the "dialogue" is mute.  She communicates through body language, gestures, and expressions, and she's good at making herself understood.  My initial inclination was to treat her gestures just as I would a speaking character, and start new paragraphs.  I felt it emphasized that she's still able to communicate and interact normally, despite not speaking.

Is there any guidelines on this matter?  If not, what would you as the reader prefer to see?  I'd really appreciate any input.  Thanks.

Getting ahead of yourself

What do you guys do if you suddenly realise that you've gotten way ahead of yourself, plot-wise? I was writing up some notes on my lunchbreak and was hit by a wave of inspiration regarding the backstory of some of my characters, and I was wondering whether I should try and get it down now as best I can (which would involve semi-rewriting - from fresh, not going back - what I've already done, to a point, because some of the scenes that are already there wouldn't make sense if I used this backstory), or just plough on and hope that it'll come back to me from rereading my notes in December. If I did the former, I'd be saying sort of the same thing twice, though. What would you do?

Is there anything ONLINE that functions like yWriter? Meaning, that allows you to skip between scenes and edit them together later?

I'm not able to use my personal computer now so it'd be nice to have something similar online.

I'm having an identity crisis!

I went into this year's Nano thinking about a nontraditional special needs parenting book, and would still like to do that.

Just not now.

I have been blocked almost from the start on this one, and have barely mustered up a couple thousand words that are worth anything, a little more that reads like my own brain in overload.

So, I need something new, like, now. And I'm at a standstill. Last year's novel is still awaiting editing *shudders* but follows the story of a mother of special needs children as she struggles to redefine herself and her family in light of her kids' conditions. It's more complicated than that, obviously. But I felt strongly about it and really feel that it is a solid piece of work whenever I might head into editing.

This year ... squat! And while I can write fast, hammer out thousands of words quickly, I have to have at least some idea of where I'm going, or you know, an actual plot.

*sighs*

I should probably state here that the biggest hurdle for my current idea has been that I don't feel qualified to put my opinion out there, and in some respects don't even know where I stand, how I feel on some ideas I would want/need to address in a book like this. If it would be possible to still work on this one, considering it from a different twist or something, I'd love suggestions or a slap across the head, or something ... I keep hitting a wall when writing because I keep thinking no one will be interested in what I have to say.

Silly, right? That's something we're all having to work through, to a degree.

How many of y'all are posting your Nano novels on your LJs or elsewhere?

I'm sort of ambivalent about whether or not I should. On the one hand I'd like feedback from some of my friends, but on the other I'm worried about what would happen if I wanted to try to get it published. I'm also not completely sanguine about exposing others to such a completely rough draft. How do you guys who post your novels deal with this stuff?

Uh. Oh. At 13k, I have a problem. My darling MC, Caroline, is becoming a bit of a cookie-cutter girl. Which makes me very angry. The only thing close to a fault she has is being extremely indecisive and maybe a bit of a push-over and way too trusting/naive. So, Nano community, want to help me make Caroline a bit more troubled/faulted/not-perfect?

I am trying to think of normal faults everyone has. Caroline has yet to see the male main character hanging around another female, so I am thinking of making her a bit jealous? ...but that sounds just so lame. Ugh.

Any suggestions?
