HAPPY OCTOBER!

Hi Everyone! One of your friendly Mods here!
It's hard to believe it's been almost a year since last NaNoWriMo. Can you guys believe it's already October? I am still wondering where Spring went and it's already Fall! Being the well prepared person that I am, I haven't even considered what I will be writing for NaNo. :3

Are you in the same boat as me? Or are you one of those weird people who actually plan things in advance? Starting soon we will begin posting more things to help you plan, organize, freak out... etc. We've got friending memes, plot advice, Introduction Posts, and many other things planned for not only November, but October as well!

The first of these "events" will take place THURSDAY from 8-11PM EST in the AIM chatroom NANOPLOTTING. We will be there to talk about general NaNo worries, plot help, support, encouragement. It's still almost a month away, but now is as good a time as ever to start getting prepared for it! Come on in, make some new friends, and talk about our favorite writing challenge of the year!

-Jupiter

p.s. Soon we will be posting the rules and formal welcome for the community this year, so keep an eye out for those!

Is this OK?

So... I tried to do NaNo a couple of years back, and didn't manage well at all, and last year family & work got in the way.

Is it OK to use the 6000 or so words I wrote & have scattered in various text files as a background or inserted scenes for this time? (I had written bits from all over the planned novel, including both the first & last pages!) Obviously if I do, in order to count as having done it, I'd need to total 56,000 words (ie 50,000 new words).

Does that count or do I need to start a completely new story? I just like the characters in this one quite a lot!
