I hope you guys are enjoying your plotting time during October. This month is just going to fly by and before you know it, Nano will be here!

I'm setting up this post as a general reference post. Do you have a website you use to help you with writing that's become invaluable? Have you found some informative research in the dark corners of the internet and you have a gut feeling someone else might need it? Then this is the post to share away.

What to do:

Write the word Subject: and then write the general concept of the page your linking to and in the body of the comment and include any pertinent information.

If you wind up finding a suggested website useful, let the original poster know by replying with a simple thanks or adding your own two cents. This post is only as valuable as we as a community make it, so make it great!

Questions? See the first two comments. :)

Good morning everyone! (unless it's not morning where you are, then good WHATEVER.)

Starting this week and going through November, I'm going to be bringing you a weekly post every Friday, just to update our week and point out some posts you might have missed.

First off, if you don't know who I am, my name is Mel and I'm an owner here at [livejournal.com profile] nanowrimo. I'm also the owner over at [livejournal.com profile] allyear_sprints which is the official sprint community of [livejournal.com profile] nanowrimo. But more details on that will come. I'm a fun woman with a no-nonsense approach to life. I enjoy writing, music, and waiting for the Great Pumpkin every October 31st. :) I have been doing NanoWriMo for 4 or 5 years now and this is my 3rd year modding here.

But enough about me.

Week at a Glance:

There have been several posts going up here this week, so here's a brief overview of some of the ones you might have missed.

Icon/Banner Contest - try your hand out at creating an icon and banner for the community for an amazing prize! Contest closes on October 24.
Cast of Characters - share or reqest a character now, to help your nano planning. People are replying so check it out and see if you can help them out.
General Info Poll - fill this out to give us (the mods) a rough idea of our demographics here, so we can more easily serve you.
NaNoWriMo Reference Post - Do you have an excellent reference site or a website that helps you to plan/plot/write better? Then check out our how to handy guide and add your own favorites.

Upcoming Advertised Events:

Warm Up Sprints - have no idea what sprints are or do you just need a refresher? Want to sprint your plotting time, check out our mod [livejournal.com profile] sarahcb1208's hosted sprints on October 13th.
4th Annual Night of Writing Dangerously - detials to come.

Announcements:

We're going to be putting up a few of the friending memes as well as the general rules of this community this upcoming week, so watch for those! We will also post a few guides to plotting etc.

If you are interested in advertising a nano group you run during November, please let us know in the comments below. Give us some information on it and we will let you know if you can do an official post. We will not accept all, but we will try to give each individual group a fair assessment and see if you would fit the needs of our community and not overlap with services we or someone else who is already going to advertise. Do not ask if you can run sprints, however. The official and only advertised sprints are by [livejournal.com profile] allyear_sprints and have been for years.

Definitions:

A few nanoisms for your pleasure this week.

NaNo Rebel: - a nanoer who bucks the system and doesn't care about the rule of writing a new, fiction, 50K novel. Or anyone who wants to call themselves a rebel. :)

Sprint: - a sprint is a short, timed period of writing, often done in a chat room or one on one. See also word war.

Batyism: - any saying of NanoWrimo's founder, Chris Baty. Often quirky, cute, and involving nonsense. See: No plot, no problem.

Are you unsure if Sprinting is for you?
Do you need a refresher on how to sprint?
Well, Saturday, Oct. 13 is the perfect day to get that refresher, or learn for sure.

I'll (Sarah) be hosting "Warm Up Sprints" for a 3-hour block. Every ten minutes, you'll be given a prompt, and you write using that prompt. You don't have to use what's in the prompt exactly, but use it to inspire some creativity and get those muscles moving!

The prompts will be sentences, a single word, a phrase. Who knows?

So, on Oct. 13 (Saturday!!), from 3pm to 6pm Eastern, the chatroom will be open and sprints will be running!
I hope to see you there!!
