I'm a chatty little monkey, aren't I?

So I set up these goals for myself, these daily quotas, with the intent to blow past them every day, to exceed them and put myself closer to the final goal. But it seems that every night as I get to where the writing is getting harder and harder, I find myself pushing to even meet the goal and when I finally get there, it's only exceeding it by a couple of words. Each night is different, I take a different approach to my writing schedule, and yet every night its the same thing. Counting down the last 100 words or so.
I used to be able to blast past my quota by nearly 500 words, now I'm coming in right on quota or less than 100 over. Anyone else have this kind of situation? Do you get to your goal and think, "I should write more, just to get ahead." And then actually do it?
