Abortion

Can abortion be considered a type of surgery? I had an excerpt in my Xanga blog and one of my friends im-ed me saying that he thought abortion isn't a surgery; just a procedure. (I mention both words, "procedure" and "surgery" in my excerpt.)

Any ideas?

(oh and I HATE POETRY with a PASSION...I got an F and an "X" on my first two rough drafts ever...yay me. It's so depressing, not that I ever fooled myself thinking I was a good poet but still....)

my understanding, when i was in the RU-486 study, was that before 3 months, a regular abortion was a procedure that an RN could do.
after 3 months, it's surgery that a doctor must do.

but that definition could have changed drastically over the years.
