Going from 0 to 1,667 words a day on November 1st is doable. It has been done before. By people with much more organized schedules and a healthier dose of discipline than I've got.

Me? I need practice warming up to that. So here's what I do:

Starting about Oct. 1st, I write. Just random things, often stream of conciousness, sometimes short stories and even *gasp* fanfic. And because I answer to letter C, I write absolutely nothing pertaining to my novel. The point of this exercise is to break in my brain to coming up with 1667 words, to break in my fingers to typing 1667 words, and to break in my butt for sitting still for the length of time it takes to write 1667 words without getting distracted by anything shiny (why, yes, I do have ADD, how could you-- OOH! BIRDIE!).

Oct 1st, you start by writing 55 words. Then you add 55 words a day until on Oct. 31st you are writing a whole 1705 words. Simple, no?

And I hear comments from the peanut gallery now. "Mary Suuuue! I'm busy! I'm gonna miss a day or three!"

Yah, so? Do not worry about making up word count (that's why God invented November for), just write that day's word goal. For example, say you miss Oct. 17th for Devin Fernandes' 26th birthday (Devin, on the totally random chance you are seeing this, HI! I MISS YOU! Comment on my journal, please!) That does not mean that on Oct. 18th you have to write 1,925 words. No, you just worry about Oct. 18th's goal of 990 words.

Get it? Got it? Good.

I think this is a good way to check if I can actually cut it for November. I'm still unsure as to whether I can put in the time and discipline to do this without ruining the rest of my life. Thanks!

Gracias! Yours is cool, too. One of the cooler Potterpuffs, haha.

Ohhh! I love it! I put it in my memories for October 1st! (What's that? It's this Saturday? Only 2 days away? Why, no, I didn't know that!)
