Pep Card: Day 24
Procrastination, I think, gets a bad rap. To start a project and see it through to completion, we need the pressure and sense of urgency procrastination provides. Sure, in the midst of a frantic all-nighter to get a paper or report done, it fels horribly dysfunctional. But I see procrastination as a terrifically functional way to minimize toil and maximize output. So if you've been letting yourself fall behind on your novel, it's okay. You're just allowing the pressure to build, waiting for the do-or-die moment to arrive before you throw yourself into the book with everything you've got. A note to all procrastinators, though:

That moment starts today.

Day 24 flashcard from the No Plot? No Problem! writing kit, the genius brainchild of Chris Baty.

Not only did today's Pep Card simultaneously vindicate and terrify me, but it brought to mind that one Calvin and Hobbes strip where Calvin needs to write a story for class and instead of writing he's playing in his sandbox with Hobbes. Hobbes calls him on it, and Calvin chastises him by stating that one does not simply turn on creativity like a faucet; one must wait for the proper mood to strike. Hobbes innocently asks what mood that might be, and Calvin - without missing a beat - states simply: Last minute panic.

Happy Last Minute Panic Week.

LOL @ the Calvin and Hobbes reference. Any idea which of the C&H anthologies that might be published in?

Yeah, I've got a gigantic stack from childhood. I have no brothers or sisters, so reading about Calvin's adventures was a bit like having a little monster of a bro. Or at least I thought so. I'll have to dig through them once I get a chance. I.e., December. Thanks again for sharing! :)

Half way through November I found a copy of a Calvin and Hobbes book my family has, coloured in places (I think I had found the felt tip pens). I read through it, laughed my guts out and realised...

My MC is a grown up female version of Calvin (in the whole totally random but kinda appropriate daydreams/fantasies she has). She's just not as insightful.

They are gods.
