At the moment, the only way to get the original THX version is if you're geeky enough to own it on laserdisc and rip the laserdisc version and transfer it to DVD.
I, fortunately, AM just that geeky enough.
I have the anniversary edition of the THX version on LD (Before all the crap edits) and I ripped it to DVD. it took a while, but I was able to get it done, and it looks fabulous! it's not in surround, because the audio was stero only.
