Thank you all who helped contact the Abuse Team, as well as spread the word to the community members on other NaNo LJ sites.

I need to run a quick maintenance rundown and see what happened while I was gone, and I will get the daily threads up ASAP.

And the offender has been banned from LJ by the admins, and this shall hopefully not happen again.

The whole comm. All the mods disabled and the community had no posting access. Really annoying and making the ninja squirrels VERY MAD.

But it's getting back to normal. LJ Abuse team, for all the crap they get sometimes, really are great people and deserve cookies.

There are very, very few mac viruses out there (though since macs are getting more popular now, there have been a few (http://www.iantivirus.com/threats/)). I've never run across one in 15 years of using a mac, so, 99% chance we'll be fine.

I'm not worried about it, since I've never had a problem with catching a virus on any of my Macs that I've taken on the Internet (and this iBook is my third one, I think).

I'm glad you said that about Macs. I was just wondering how to run an anti-virus program since I don't think my Mac has one. (If it does, I have no idea what it's called.) I shouldn't have clicked on the link either -- I even knew it was stupid when I did it but I was just curious. D'oh.

Yeah, unless you download it yourself, your mac does not come with an anti-virus program. iAntivirus (http://www.iantivirus.com) and Norton Symantec (http://www.symantec.com/norton/macintosh/antivirus) are both mac antivirus programs; the first is free, the second costs. I've never needed to use either, but it can't hurt to have something on hand, I guess.

glad things are back to normal. I didn't click the link, but was dubious and almost logged a complaint to the abuse team but my children and the fact I was recovering from a rather nasty bug meant I went to my mums quite early on instead.

My computer didn't warn me or anything about a virus, but I found that it had caught a cookie of some kind. It is:

Also, in the middle of the night, I was warned out of bed(my antivius thing is loud) about malware. I hadn't been doing anything for hours, so maybe it's just a coincidence.

Didn't see the post (days behind in reading LJ but I've solved a plot problem that's had me blocked for over a year now). Didn't get a virus. Using Linux, for which there don't seem to be any viruses.
