So, in light that we have been put into the LJ Spotlight for this week, I decided to post one more Daily Intro Post so that all our wonderful new members can have a place to introduce themselves!

So welcome to the community! Reply here and introduce yourself to everyone else. And I hope you have a great time.

also - if this is your first time here, take a moment to look at the following:

2008 Community Rules - read them if you haven't, and please don't post until you have. It makes us all happy, and keeps the ninja squirrels from attacking needlessly.

2008 NaNo LJ'er Regional Friending Thread!

2008 Pimp and Post Thread - talk about your projects here!

Weekly Plot Help Threads - help your fellow community members with their plots!

Daily Word Count Posts - This is where you post your word counts (except your 50K accomplishment, which you get to shout to the world in it's own post for 5 minutes of fame and glory!)

Daily Excerpts - This is where you post snippets from your NaNo to share with everyone. But keep it within the limits!

all these links are available on the profile page as well as the sidebar links in the community in case you ever need to find them.

EDIT: Talking to support now about recovering the Pimp Thread and the Regional Friends thread. Keep your fingers crossed.

Hi, I'm Jamie. :) This is technically my second NaNoWriMo, but only got to about 3,000 words in back in '06 and skipped it last year, heh. I posted in the other, previous Daily Intro thread, too, before this one got posted, but... that was before this one got posted, and I thought of a couple extra things I wanted to add anyway. I came here from the LJ spotlight, myself. :)

I'll probably working on two separate stories, first because I'm never just working on one the rest of the year anyway, and second, because I'm a masochist. One is called Warehouse 13 and is inspired by a writing prompt I did in my college writing club a few weeks ago, basically about runaways who meet and become friends and grow up a little together in an old warehouse.

The other is currently titled Darkest (may change title, not sure yet), and is in the horror-fantasy genre; it's a slightly twisted take on the vampire romance subgenre, where the pale-skinned, moody object of a young girl's affections may actually be a lot more dangerous and deceptive than she would really like to believe. I'll admit it's kind of a response to the Twilight Saga, because the more I try to read that thing, the more I keep thinking "But... but... abusive boyfriend! Stalker! What!?" So I asked myself, what if you were to play it a little differently, a little less romantic, a little scarier and less happy-go-no-consequences; a little less Romance, in other words, and a little more Horror... and voila, a plotbunny that I couldn't resist was born! :D

Yeah, I'm eclectic. :P You can seen how I don't want to give up either of them, though, they're both good little plotbunnies with a lot of potential. I've been outlining both in my head and (yes, despite it being the tenth as I post this) I haven't quite officially settled on which one I'm going to do as a NaNo. Probably the vampire story, if I can get enough info on Seattle (where it's set) and LA (where one of the characters is from) to feel like I can capture the mood, otherwise the non-specifically-set Warehouse story will have to do. :P But I'm really leaning towards Darkest, honestly, because I've been already doing a lot of world-building in my head, and it's a nifty universe that I'd love to dive into... the only reason I wouldn't is if I honestly didn't feel confident in my ability to capture Seattle very well, because I don't want to get it completely, utterly wrong and piss of Seattle...ites? See, I don't even know yet what they call themselves. XD Hence the need for a little research first!

Anywho, I'm Marissa and right now I'm exactly at 16k! *whoops!* I hope to get ahead today and tomorrow, but the internet is my worst enemy. x-x

Hallo! I've been watching and posting to the community, but I'm terrible about introducing myself, so I figured I'd give this a shot. I'm ilex, which is a real-life nickname, but I also go by holly, especially when it involves people writing checks to me :P

This is my first NaNo, as I'm not counting the time I intended to do it and wrote maybe 400 words and decided I didn't have time or interest. I'm really doing it this year, though - I'm almost up to 20,000 words! My story doesn't have a title, or even defined chapters, and so far it's been more just day-to-day character studies. It's basically a trashy romance novel, but even for that, I think the plot is pretty flat. More like a daytime soap opera than a novel plot form. And I'm okay with that! I have absolutely no delusions of grandeur here, I'm at peace with my own suckitude, I'm just doing this to DO it, and to hone my skills at writing in general. Maybe next year I'll do something more novel-esque ;)

I'm a musician, singer/songwriter, and a full time piano technician.

'Lo all. Checking this out as I've been feeling the spark of creativity recently. Mostly write sci-fi/fantasy stuff inspired by the wargames I play (and often posted to Liber Daemonica here on LJ). I'm coming in mighty late to the game at this point, so I may just observe for now (usually write short stories in the 10-15K word range...a whole novel might be...overwhelming?) But I'll still throw in the word count stuff and post bits now and again should anyone be interested. Cheers!

Hi, this is my first NaNo, and I'm pretty excited about it. My name is Heather, I live in Portland OR. My story is called Temporary Insanity, and is about the trials and tribulations of a temp agency owner who finds herself thrust into the unlikely position of doing private investigations for some of her clients.
Well, theoretically that's what it's about, mostly it's just about her relationships with the people around her, and the food that they eat. I expect I'll be forced to get around to some actual plot soon in order to make more words happen. I'm at just over 15K, and I'm pretty proud of that :)

Feel free to friend me, or add me as a buddy, or whatever, if you're interested in doing so.

Hi, I'm Holly Batali (pen-name, anyway). This is my first NaNo, and I'm at about 21,500 something and loving it. I'm writing a fantasy novel about a young police cadet named Bridge, who was psychic powers. During a bombing investigation, he's led straight to Romania (in what used to be Transylvania--hint hint) and gets in a fight with vampires. He ends up at TAPS, the Transylvanian Academy of Psychic Senses, where he--and the other students there--fight vampires and assorted supernatural. It's better than it sounds, promise.

I've been hanging around for the last few days but this is my first NaNo, so I'm pretty new. I'm 16, female, and writing fanfiction for 'Of Mice and Men' for this year's NaNoWrimo. The story itself is untitled right now, as I want to finish it before I name it. It takes place from 1930 to 1932/33 in California, chronicling the events from the time of Lennie's Aunt Clara's death to the start of the novella; it follows George and Lennie's path from Auburn, to Sacramento, to Weed, and finally to Soledad. While its secondary characters are all original, it it mostly delving into canonical events of George and Lennie's lives, such as their going to a fair in Sacramento, George almost drowning Lennie, and their meeting the sickly old couple that will sell them the farm of their dreams.

Hi :)

I've just joined. I completed the NaNo in 2006 with a ghastly supernatural original novel that will NEVER see the light of day. This year, I'm writing fanfic. I've taken a series of 50 prompts from one of those prompt comms and each prompt is to become a chapter. I've absolutely no plans for plot and I'm juggling 17 characters so far - lol - yes, I know I'm heading for disaster.

Wish me luck!!

Hi, all. I'm Chris, and this is my first NaNo. I actually decided to participate on Halloween, so it may have not been the most rational decision, considering I was under the influence of too much candy at the time. I went in with a vague, barely-formed idea ("post-apocalyptic wingfic!"), no character names, no character personalities, no plot, no ending, and no setting. Right now I'm at almost 30,000 words and I have no idea how I have gotten here. Before this, the longest thing I had ever written was 9,000 words of fanfiction (this is original fiction). I have a vague ending in sight now, nine or so characters, and I'm making everything up as I go but hey, whatever works, right?

I'm seventeen and from NE Ohio, and I suppose doing this is better than tipping cows (kidding. Kidding. Cows get enough trouble as is without me prodding at them).

Hi, I just joined. This is my first NaNo and I'm sort of dragging my feet so far. I'm way behind on the schedule I set for myself because I scrapped what I had and started over a couple times without first stopping to consider the date. Luckily I'm coming up on a bit that got a good bit of thought in advance, and it's a habit of mine to flail over something for a bit and then zip through it when the deadline starts to really loom anyway.

Best of luck to everyone!

I'm Fran Wolfe-Johnson. 37 years old, married to a computer programmer, and I actually have done some freelance writing though none of it has been for contract or pay (unless you count copies of the magazine or print).

This year, I have a partner. We share these characters and together we make a pretty powerful team. We haven't figured out how we'll combine our names when we take the manuscript to print, but we'll get that settled eventually.

This year's project involves characters from a previous attempt: a Texas Ranger and his partner, his girlfriend (a river delta heiress from New Orleans who needs to get that silver spoon out of her mouth), and our resident geek intern with a knack for getting into the criminals' heads.

I don't do much outside of NaNo except write on other projects. Since my legs don't work properly any more, most of my time is spent sitting on my rear in a wheelchair. We're in the process of modifying the house so that I can actually do chores.

My other interests include drawing, reading, hiking, camping, fishing, all manner of outdoor activities, hunting up historical places, photography, and bird watching.

Hi I'm Emily. I am currently fourteen years old and this is my first attempt at nanowrimo. If you can't tell I'm really into anime and manga. I also horse back ride, read, draw, and that's about it. Currently my word count is a little over 5000. I'm a bit behind everyone else. So, it's nice to meet you all, and good luck with your nanoing ♥

Y HALLO THAR EVERYBODY.

I'm Krist (or Kristeh on the main site) I'm a Japanese major, musical theater enthusiast and Disneyland Cast Member ♥

As far as the novel goes, this is my third attempt, and after two years of EPIC FAIL I just hit 26k and am about 1/4 through my novel's actual plot. So this is probably going to be a very good year for me, as far as nanowrimo is concerned. My novel is called 'Confessions of a High School Boyfriend' and it (Is a Kingdom Hearts high school AU, because that is all I know how to write at the moment) follows a boy through all four years of his high school life as he meets knew people and falls for one of his new friends who happens to be a boy. It's mostly about random shenanigans but it's also got a large focus on acceptance and how hard that is to find when you live in a little conservative city like mine.

Very slice-of-life. Supposedly it's amusing, but goodness knows I haven't read any of it. If you're curious, I'm posting my daily progress at [livejournal.com profile] kream_filling

Also, just in case you were wondering, the true key to nano success is having your own personal cheer leader who throws a small party every time you hit a word-mile-stone. And who waves a pompom in your face every time you hit a rut. (That's my Roxy-love ♥)

Happy writing, everybody~

Hello all!

This is my first NaNoWriMo, though I've heard of it in the past. I'm really excited and looking forward to everything.

I go to university, which is crazy since I have three papers due the third week of NaNo. 0-o;;

I tend to write poetry more than I do anything else lately, so I'm mostly just charging in to attempt pose again. This novel idea has been kicking around for four years, but it's certainly coming out on the page waaaay different.

Best novel writing wishes!

Hi, I'm Dee. I'm a Sophmore (15) and this is my first attempt at a NaNo. My word goal is 40,000 though I'm still at 7,000 and feeling very pressured. Especially with school work. I'm a huge fan of writing and I'll write anything, pretty much, that comes to me.

Hopefully, my first time with NaNo goes well and I can get to that word goal.

Hey all! I'm a first time NaNoWriMo-er, and an almost 28 year old stay at home mom to a 2 year old. I found this community with the LJ Spotlight :) I'm really looking forward to the help/encouragement in a forum less intimidating than the main NaNo site.

My novel is about a marine biologist who during a routine research trip stumbles on gun smugglers. She is rescued from her burning research station by a group of Navy SEALs. Striking up a friendship with one of them, she gets caught in the middle of the battle between the gun smuggling ring and the SEAL team which might cost her life.

It currently sits at just over 17k, almost 4k of which I wrote today to force myself back into the swing of things.

I have decided not to post novel excerpts until after NaNo as I am sure once I start getting advice I will want to edit and November is not the time for editing! If anyone wants to read excerpts I'll be posting them in December at [livejournal.com profile] oshnstories so feel free to friend my writing journal! Also I'm SCUBAJfer on the main NaNo forum if anyone wants another writing buddy!

Can't wait to see how everyone does! I'll read every post and try to help where I can.

Howdy!

Hi, I'm Jan, and I come to you from The Great White North! :D Which isn't very just white yet, but give it a month or so and we'll be buried in the stuff.

I have been writing on and off for over 20 years, but didn't get real serious until 2007. I love to write sci-fi and dark fantasy (at least that's what I think it's called), and my peice for NaNo is the latter.

And I wish you all best of luck. :D

Hi
Jo here. Only just signed up cos I forgot it was November but I type fast (if inaccurately) so I might even catch up. Hell, even if I get close I'll be happy enough.
Co-incidently I was mooching around at my dad's earlier and I found a really old bit of writing I did with some character outlines that I was very pleased with at the time - I might have found these characters a home if this NaNo works out.
Alternatively I'll do zombies.... or porn..... hmmm.... zombie-porn.... that should keep my boyfriend interested at least.

This is my first year doing Nanowrimo. And I'm excited to start, though I'm juggling Nanowrimo with being a freshman in college, an art major and music minor, the free time I *DO* have is devoted to Nanowrimo this month. Though, I don't have much free time which is why I'm doing Nanowrimo at my own leisurely pace. I'm writing it out in a notebook (s) so I'm doing it all as pages and not word count. I've always been a creative writer and been serious about publishing a book, so now I'm excited to have finally getting my ideas and plot down on paper. I'm hoping to have this story published by the end of my college career.

So my Nanowrimo is Fantasy and Sci-fi. Its based on the hero's journey and the "hero line". Good verses Evil and probably romance. Most of the story will be based outside of the Earth related planet called, "Planet Terra". And the hero goes on missions and journeys through her life time defending her home planet. I have also incorporated a lot of spiritual ideas as well, so it shall be interesting to see how that turns out

Hello, I'm Amanda. I have been writing since my sophomore year in high school. This is my first NaNoWriMo. I've always wanted to participate, but had something else going on. I made it a priority this year.

I'm currently working on (I lost count) several stories at the moment, but my precious would be titled Demon Moon. The actual synopsis is too long to post here, but basically it goes something like this... Girl hates demons due to murder of family. Girl works for secret organization, meets half-demon. They fall kicking and screaming in love with each other.

I can't write in a quiet room. I have to have music; it's the only thing that feeds my creative muse. I get inspired by almost any and everything: a phrase, song, certain words used in certain sentences. I have to carry a note book around with me just to keep up with all of my ideas. I don't like to use my computer to write. I still use the old school way -- long hand -- then type my stories up.

Well, I guess that's all. Please feel free to ask me any questions you have. I will post an excerpt soon. Good luck to all on their projects!

Amanda

I am Jacqueline, 22, university student and first time Nanowrimoer. I am more than a little terrified as I have never before finished a story longer than 24,000 words and I'm attempting to with the first ever non-fanfic fantasy I have written *insane grin*

when I am not nano-ing i read alot, play too much wow and sing in two choirs.

Quote: . "the more I try to read that thing, the more I keep thinking "But... but... abusive boyfriend! Stalker! What!?" "

OMG... I just finished reading the first Twilight book last nigh. When I wasn't busy screaming "I get it already!" every time she described edward's "perfection" (which was every other page) i was busy WTFing about the controlling stalker as a romatic lead, and also about the sparkly vampires (because seriously... wtf?)

Hey NaNoites!

I'm 24 and this is my first NaNo, although I actually completed a novel 2 years ago but have been gravely unsatisfied with the outcome. In the past few years I've done more playwriting and have had one play produced so far...ah such is the life of a playwright.

I seem to write a lot about the Holocaust and I've really had this idea in my head for a long time. It is the story of a 10-year-old girl who was taken to Auschwitz with her twin and survived by being experimented on, however the story of my novel is about her coping with life thereafter. Since the death of her twin, she stopped speaking and the story is told through the point of view of her teenage cousin in the US who lives with her and the aunt. There are also some pre-camp diary entries from her sprinkled throughout. As I get farther along, more things develop and more stuff about the aunt and her daughter develop. There is a family secret involved as well that I had all along, but the secret itself has become an entity that has really shaped a lot of the character's relationships.

It'll be interesting.

Feel free to NaNo friend me!
