So here goes: I started NaNo last year after my friend travellyr told me about it. We discussed it at length starting in September but really got into the heavy duty discussions in October. Since I had a novel kicking around in my head, I thought that NaNo would be a good reason for me to finally get it all down. I actually made it OVER the 50k word count (but only by just over 1000 words) and officialy "won" last year. (Never mind that the novel is not complete yet and probably still has another 50k words left in it - if not more.)
This year I'm going to use my fancy pants university education to write my story, a historical fiction/romance set in the Civil War all over the East Coast. I honestly don't have much planned for it so far, aside from my two main characters having names. Additional character planning will continue probably up until November 1st, where I will grudgingly cheerfully dive into my story with nothing planned beyond the general idea in my mind and the very first sentence. Though that could change.
I like to feel the ideas flowing from my mind to my fingers and magically appear in Microsoft Word. I find it a great creative outlet as well.
