I traditionally use Nanowrimo to clean out my WIP folder. I would feel guilty about this, but I view Nanowrimo as counter-productive in the novel writing game for myself (this does not apply to everybody, obviously, as every writer is different). A book is typically 70,000 or 80,000 words minimum, and if you burn yourself out on the first 50,000 words by crazily sprinting through Nanowrimo, sometimes (read: for me, almost always) the work is not returned to after November.
However, at write-ins, I tell people the plot of a random novel because man, do people look at you with a stinkface for being a rebel sometimes.
Continuing a previous WIP is a good idea, actually, though I don't think it has 50,000 words left in it. I may do that in November and then start a new one from scratch in March like I planned.
I said "no I don't like them" to the sprints, but thats not realy true more "no, I tend to keep missing them" is more the case, but there wasn't an option for that.
This year will be tougher for nano (not that i've completed any other year!) as I am doing a joint project with another author, its based from his original idea, but its sort of the same overall story arch, but i'll be doing the female lead, he'll be doing the male lead, due to them being split apart and experiencing different things after a shared first chapter. We'll be starting from the moment they split, which will be intriguing to do as i've never done anything like this and its taking a while to get my head around his world as it where ;)
I would encourage you to check out the sprint calendar in november. We now basically run sprints 24/7. It will change slightly but i hope you check it out and try it out if you'd like. https://www.google.com/calendar/embed?src=0ssb66kg5p9tjdbd25pn80og6o%40group.calendar.google.com

They should be in East Coast time. Here's a way to check: Nano into the night is 11 East Coast time and 10 Central. (pm) so check that and see if they all make sense.
I wish I was participating. Between a nine month old and college I seriously doubt I have the time to even plot let alone write this year. It'll have to be put off. When is NanoFiMo, though because I might try and attempt that as I have a bunch of unfinished concepts and 25,000 is around the amount I always end up with turning NanoWriMo. Being a Nanorebel might be something I'll consider for next year though.
I left the sprint question out, because I tend to miss them, or just can't give the time to them when I do see them. But I don't know, maybe I'll try them this year.
I don't know about being a rebel, because 1) I didn't know how you defined it when I was filling out the poll, and 2) I still haven't really made my mind up about what to write. One of my ideas is taking up the idea from the NaNo I started (and won!) from 2008, and reworking it/starting at a different point. That year I had no idea what I was doing, I just started writing. And by the end I ended up with 50+k ot a trilogy instead of one lone novel. So now I might go back and work on one of the books... On the other hand, I'm still toying with a bunch of other plots, so... No idea. I am reading up on Dark Ages!England just in case, though.
try them out. We have a new shiny room that streamlined sprints AND makes it easier to avoid the trolls (we can boot and ban the jackals) we're over on http://www.chatzy.com/writingsprints (And even have a mobile site now) our schedule is here: https://www.google.com/calendar/embed?src=0ssb66kg5p9tjdbd25pn80og6o%40group.calendar.google.com check out november. Thanks!
I can't say I don't like sprints as I've never used them. Most seem to occur when I'm working, so I can't use them, and thus far I've had no real difficulty meeting the 50k goal without them. Who knows about this year though...we'll see how it goes!
We're trying really hard to make sure this year, almost all the times are covered. This is our calendar https://www.google.com/calendar/embed?src=0ssb66kg5p9tjdbd25pn80og6o%40group.calendar.google.com if you want to click to november and get a view at when we'll offer sprints. Once we get each week settled, a few of those times each week will be deleted, but we're going to try to keep them all going. If any get deleted it'll be nocturnal and sunrise, but we're hoping that's not the case!
I picked 'rebel', but I really don't consider myself a rebel. Apparently some folks think I do though. I'm working on my novel from last year, but I'm picking up where I left off & am writing 50k completely new words. I hope to finish it this year and then edit it into some kind of complete, hopefully publishable novel.
There's also a chance that I might just scrap everything from last year and start over from scratch, depending on how my attempts at outlining this month go. So it's a novel I've worked on before, but all NaNo work will be 100% new. So...I dunno. I picked it but don't feel the label should apply. :P
I listed "don't like" for sprints, but "don't care, never tried" would be more accurate.
As for rebel, I've discovered that, for me, 25000 is a much better target. I end up with text thhat's actually good enough that I can do something with it after -- like reading revising, and enjoying. The 50000 target, when I achieved it, left me with a kind of novel thing I have no idea what to do with. Too much of it is bad and inconsistent that I effectively am left with a lot less than 25000 usable words.
On the other hand, with the reduced target, I do find that year after year I achieve more.

And what exactly does being a Rebel consist of?
