[personal profile] janinedog posting in [community profile] nanowrimo_lj
Hi! I've been lurking here for a week or two, but have yet to actually post (I've made a few comments, though).

My name is Janine, I'm 20, and this is my first year doing NaNoWriMo. I've known about it since 2002 I think because I've had online friends do it, but I've always told myself it'd be too much work and I wouldn't have the time for it. This year isn't any different, except that I'm going to give it a shot anyway. :)

I bought No Plot? No Problem! and it's been quite helpful in keeping my spirits up for this and making me think (hope?) that I can actually finish a novel in a month. I highly recommend the book...it's very entertaining. :)

I have a few characters in mind, plus a general outline of a plot. However, I'm not quite sure how it'll all fit together or how it'll last for 50,000 words. But I hope that'll work itself out once I start writing.

The plot is basically a mixture of a bunch of things that I've read and love (particularly shoujo manga...). I'm not very creative or original, but hey, I don't care. :)

Anilla is a elf-like being (the actual race, which I made up, is called Sagradae) who lives on earth before humans existed. Something happens which causes her to go forward in time to present day, and she meets up with people her age (16-18) and ends up going to high school, etc. The antagonist is going to be a teacher at the school who finds out who and what she is, and wants to do some mad scientist plot where he tries to mix Anilla's blood with human blood to create better humans. In the meantime, Anilla meets up with a guy and there's a whole love story in there, and there's friendships and hardbreaks and all that wonderful cliché stuff. And Anilla is trying to get back to her time. I'm not quite sure how it's going to end yet, but I have ideas.

I've written short stories in the past, including a bunch for a very developed online RPG character of mine ([livejournal.com profile] anilla). I'm actually using her as the main character in my novel, but she's going to be somewhat different in order to fit into a different storyline. But her general personality will be the same, I think.

If you're interested in reading my thoughts and ideas on the novel, plus the actual novel itself once I start writing it, feel free to request membership to [livejournal.com profile] neenowrimo, which is the community I'm using to post about my novel. The posts are members-only but anyone can feel free to request membership and I'll add you.

Good luck to you all on your writing adventures! :)
