First of all, I want to give thanks for our mods and all they do, especially the ones that run the nanosprints room on AIM. It's been an invaluable resource for me, and probably the only reason I'm making word count.
But, ten hours in one day is more than enough, and they do not deserve grief. And, they are MORE than deserving of a day off where they don't have to run sprints. Sorry it's been a trial and you guys are appreciated. (Note: I don't have the first clue what the problem was, I'm going going by the mod post this morning.
So, I thought I'd post about something I started doing myself when I need that sprint atmosphere to help me power through a difficult passage, and do not have the sprint chatroom available to me. It's very simple and nothing clever or innovative, but I thought I'd share so we can give the mods a break.
Just do this:
Set aside an hour. At the top of an hour, sprint for 10 minutes. at :10 stop and check your word count. Wait 10 minutes. At :20 do it again and try to beat the word count for the first 10. At :30 take another ten minute break and then go again at :40, trying to beat the better of the first two word counts.
It gives you a sprint if you need one and you don't need to bother the mods. Also, if you're not as fast as some of the other people in the sprint chatroom (I'm not) then it helps simply to be competing with yourself.
Just a thought and best wishes and a big hug to the mods. Be good to them!
