My MC's biological name is Arelié of deNavano but when she is orphaned, she becomes a commoner by the name of Ary Rangsey. Her best friends are Kiri, Xylia (nn- Lia), and Sekai.

What do you think of those names? (They are all commoners.)

Ary's twin sister is Anaqi (ah-NAH-ku-ee) of deNavano. Is Anaqi too weird a name? She is a very strong, assertive person and not really a tomboy, but she is definitely not a girly girl. She's highly feminist though and advocates women's rights in terms of combat and such.

Okay here is where I need feedback on names most:

Villains!!!

My MC and her twin's grandmother is villain #1 - Pebbuane (formed by a combo of my hated cousin's name and Luane, which one of my friend despises)

Stepmother is another villain - Glynia Dianne of deNavano (Is the name too frilly? I like the Glynia part but not the Dianne part since I have a friend by that name. However Glynia Dianne was formed as an anagram of the full name of one of the girls I hate from h.s.)

Rapist villain in my story - Edul Malin (anagram of a guy I despise)

Last villain - Jutin Lese (however, this name is much too similar to the original name and is an anagram. I'd like to keep the letters but is there any suggestions how I can rearrange the name more?)

THANKS!

Cross-posted from my Nano Journal, to let folks know I'm still at it. Readers are always welcome, especially if you've already finished your novel. I'm going to be happy for some constructive criticism pretty soon...

This 2522 word chapter was a bear and a half to write. I know I'm leaving out description of the scenes in an effort to write the bare bones, and rather than pad this chapter, I opted to just get the story line moved to the point where I can get to the big battle. Because Beline isn't going to be there, (or is she?), the tale will be told from the perspective of Lightfather Rand'l in a journal he kept.

It's the first time I'm doing a major switching of point of view (POV), and while it's probably awkward, I'm still going to use it because this whole book is being written by Beline as an old, old woman, and so she is going to depend upon other sources than her own memories to tell as much as the tale as possible.

Only 11,417 words to go. I wrote nearly that much in the first incredibly long chapter that took two days to write, so if you don't hear from me for a while, it's because I'm on a roll.

So here it is, folks,

Ok, I wrote a paragraph.

Hmph.

This blows.

Also, I got another idea and started writing it, instead.

I think I may not make it.

Okay, made it over 18k last night. I see it as a major accomplishment considering I had a previously scheduled football party at my house yesterday afternoon with some of the neighbors. Unfortunately, that killed a HUGE chunk of the day, but it was FUN!! Now, I'm huddled over my keyboard, trying to make up WC. I'm planning on a major binge writing day. Anybody else near my wordcount and still convinced they can make it? I wrote over 1,300 words in about 35 mintues last night, so I'm sure if I go at it hammer and tongs today, I can make up quite a bit of ground.

I'm taking a little break today. I have a huge headache and yeah. Don't really feel like staring at a computer screen. o_O It's all right though, my word count is good enough that I can afford a wee break.

So everything is all right. :) I'll probably end up doing some typing tonight. Whether or not I hit 46k, I don't know, but as long as I get a little more than 45k then I'm okay.

I keep throwing in some crap that I'm just managing to tie into the whole scheme of things. haha. It's also looking like there's going to be a little love interest in there. haha. I really need to get to the war, but it'll come when it comes. hehe.

I can't wait until the Thanksgiving break. woo. I get to sleep in and write! If I'm lucky I'll finish sometime this week. :D

It seems to me like most people who quit Nanowrimo quit in the third week. The pep talk for the third week and the chapter in 'No Plot? No Problem!' that talks about this part of the process make it sound like the third week is smooth sailing. I've noticed that for many people participating in the collective madness, the third week is when the personal disasters occur, when the word count deficit becomes overwhelming, when writing is no longer fun, or when you just want to do something else -- anything else. I'm seeing a lot of people who just cannot do it any more, and I wish them well.

I'm going to give a big cheer to those who are still plugging on in the face of adversity, a big hug to those who are preserving their sanity by leaving off before their minds explode, and a little rallying cry to those who are undecided:

You want to finish, but you don't know if you can. Your determinaton is perhaps wavering. You want to feel the sparks of joy and hope you felt when you were first starting and everything was fresh. Try narrative tricks and games, like spontaneously ending the story with a major disaster or string of unexplained deaths and have the rest of your book be a similar story, giving you the chance to start anew with some of the same themes and devices you enjoyed going in to the process. Make the rest of the book a short story or novella with completely new characters, if you despise your current cast. Find some old story idea you fell in love with years ago but never fleshed out and hurl it discus-style into the mix.

Get a cheerleader! Find someone else who's plugging along beside you, who is stubbornly refusing to give up. Ask them to cheer you on and give you little shoves when you falter. Look for someone who inspires you in some way, with their ideas or their dedication.

Take mini-vacations, when you promise yourself not to agonize over your nano for a set amount of time, like an hour. Set an alarm if you have to. For that hour, do the thing you want to do the most but felt guilty about doing because of how behind you are. Sometimes stepping away and breathing untainted air is the best thing to rejuvenate your tired brain diodes. Think of the nano like a baby -- sometimes you just need a sibling or sitter to look after it to give you a reprieve from the constant demands on your time and well-being. It doesn't mean you love it less. It means that you're a separate individual asserting your separateness.

I hope all this didn't sound too pompous. I couldn't stand to quit now, but I know if I was harboring any doubts I'd probably like to see things or people out there that bolster my confidence and give me a desperate desire to shine.

Sadly, I have to quit NaNoWriMo now. I’m rather annoyed and disappointed in equal parts.  This is my first year doing NaNoWriMo and when I started, I was well aware that I might not be able to complete 50,000 words seeing as I only had two weeks to do it rather than one month. But I’ve actually been pretty confident that I would finish my novel within two weeks, especially since I was initially ahead of my required daily word count. But that didn’t work out… *sighs* It’s especially more disappointing considering that I’ve written this much but have to quit now.  However, seeing as I’m going for a vacation tomorrow (which makes me go ‘yay!’) for nine days, I will have to take my leave of NaNoWriMo…

It has been a two weeks of quite a bit of madness, with me whining to anyone who would listen. I had the most ridiculous amount of computer problems in these two weeks, had numerous unexpected events cropping up and spent a great deal out shopping actually. I was still certain I could finish the novel last Wednesday, only I fell sick on Thursday.  Oh, the suckyness of life…  Writing went downhill from then on and my word count progressed by the hundreds rather than thousands day by day.  So, I’ve come to a crawling, stuttering stop here, to the end of NaNoWriMo for me…

Alright!  Melodrama aside, this has been a fun experience! I didn’t get to interact with other NaNoWriMoers (what is the term for it?) as much as I wanted to since I was too busy writing but this community has been fun to follow anyhow. I do plan to come back and finish the novel. It’ll probably be closer to 100, 000 words… ^_^;;

I’ve learnt a few things so far…and I’ll bother you guys with it… ^_^

Psychotic breathless writing has taught me…

I feel so reluctant to stop writing now! Oh well, good luck to the rest of you and have fun! I bid you adieu!

Edit : Forgot to add in my word count! Hmm...I've come moderately far...
