Five NaNoWriMo Desktop Calendars

These were not made by me, but I felt I had to share them because one of them provided a perfect inspiration for my story, and I wanted them to do the same for someone else. They were made by ShatteredByRain over on the NaNo site. I don't know if she has an LJ, but her username links to her NaNo profile. There's even a calendar template at the bottom for anyone who wants to try their hand at making their own desktop calendar.

They're really beautiful wallpapers, they include how many words you're supposed to have everyday [if you're going for the standard 50k words] and for anyone and everyone who hasn't seen them on the forums yet. Just in time for the beginning of NaNoWriMo!

So...

Anybody else out there having a midnight write-in tonight?

Last year, just for fun, I stayed up late at home and put down a few hundred words as soon as it hit November.

This year, just for fun, I've called a formal write-in for my region to meet up late tonight and bust out some text at a minute past midnight.

How about you?

Well, it's been one heck of a ride, let me tell you. And this is just the beginning.

I want to thank everyone who's stuck with me over the last month. You guys have been truly awesome and some of the stuff you've come up with blows me away. I am truly not worthy when compared to your sheer brilliance. But now we move hand-in-hand from Warm-Ups into NaNo, and I hope that we'll keep this comradeship going. It's the only way to survive the next 30 days, as we veterans know.

So, without further ado, and mostly so you can get going with the final prep work for midnight tonight in whatever time zone you're in (and to those of our literary compatriots who are currently living Day 1 of NaNo, I salute you!), I give you our absolutely final Warm Up of 2007.

Like a river flowing... )

Now, I mentioned iconses a while back, and I have decided that instead of making icons for those who've done all the warm-ups, I'm just going to let everyone who tried their hand at these pick one and wear it proudly for the next 24 hours or however long you wish.

Icons and Credit Info  )

Thanks again, everyone! Catch you on the other side of November 1st!

Does anyone know where I can find an excell spreadsheet for keeping track of my wordcount? I had a nifty one last year, but that computer melted.... literally.

It's the last intro post of the season! OMG! IT'S ALMOST TIME TO NANO (and for some people in other parts of the world, they already are writing!!!)

Last chance to introduce yourself, because after tomorrow, everyone will be in their own little worlds type, type, typing away.

A few other notes: )

And that's it! Starting tomorrow Mo takes over on the daily posting for the "Daily Word Count" posts and the "Daily Excerpt" posts. I will still get the Plot Help posts up, and make sure that links are put as reminders in the other Daily posts.

Happy NaNo'ing, and good luck to everyone!

Hello there, I'm a writer from Austin and for this year's NaNo I have been toying with the notion of trying historical fiction. I know this is not a genre to take on lightly, especially last minute. Perhaps I won't make it very far without a great deal of research, but I'm hoping to get the basics of plot, character, etc down this month. Then my plan is to go back and research to my heart's content. I figure it would be helpful to have specific scenes to flesh out, instead of just doing a whole lot of research with no direction. (If it backfires I'll turn it into fantasy and have a heyday with mixing cultural references!) I am a double major in English and History, so you'd think I'd already have great ideas for resource materials, but instead I'm rather at a loss.

That being said, I'm looking for a good all-purpose reference for the lifestyles / clothing styles / foods etc of the period I'll be working with--still up in the air. Something with both text and illustration, if at all possible. I'm currently interested in three time periods: Elizabethan, Jacobean uprising (early to mid 1700s), or especially early Victorian.

Any other well-loved references would be welcome suggestions, also. Thanks in advance!

Well, I'm excited.

It's 2:30 PM, I'm taking a nap until 6 when my boyfriend comes over, we watch a couple scary movies, and he's retiring to my bed while I stay up at midnight to write.

Because I'm trying to write a novel in one day. Did it last year, have a full plot outline for it this year, I think I can do it again.

I have another two novels I'm going to work on. Is anyone else doing 100K or 150K or more this month?

BTW, if this is off-topic, I'm sorry!

One of the only ways I get my words each day of November is to go into the word war rooms over on various messengers. I don't particularly care to dig through all the posts on the NaNo forums either.

So, I figure we should have a messenger introduction post here anyway, for those people looking for buddies to word war or otherwise encourage this coming November.

I use mostly AIM, but also appear over on MSN messenger. Feel free to add in your Yahoo or whatever messenger you may use.

AIM kthxdie 8D
MSN mkatgot3@msn.com

Anyone is free to add me or invite me into any word war rooms. If you know what they intend on naming the big word war rooms over on AIM, feel free to post those as well.

ETA: Our lovely mod, [livejournal.com profile] ramdonomo has started the 'nanosprints' room over on AIM and I am sure we're all friendly enough here to pass the invitations around if you are having trouble getting into it on your own. (How to can be found in her mod post here.)

FOLKS! Please... for my sanity and the love of your fellow LJ'ers...

READ THE COMMUNITY RULES WHEN YOU JOIN THIS COMMUNITY. The link is right in the profile to the list of rules posts. YOU HAVE TO SEE THIS PAGE TO JOIN A COMMUNITY, SO THERE IS NO EXCUSE.

That should be the norm for ANY community you join.

I know NaNo starts tomorrow. I know we're all excited. There has been a HUGE group of people that joined this group today. And the ninja squirrels have been busy, but seriously...

Introductions go in the daily intro post. (I will keep it going until the end of the week to pick up stragglers/late joiners)

Requests for help on plots go in the plot help section.

Anything else I do not mind as long is it's not a pointless "omg I'm so excited" type. Asking for help on resourses, widgets, etc... yes, that's fine and I even encourage it, but please also take a moment to just read the previous posts in the community so see if it's already been asked and answered before you post your request!

Mo might have her hammer, but I'm the one with the professional swordfighting training here. Don't make me go postal... because then there won't be a nice mod :)

I'm trying to work out a schedule for nano writing. I don't have much going on schedule-wise this year, but I want to try and keep some normalcy in my life. I will still be cooking, still be going to bed at a decent time, etc. But-- I am planning on finishing the 50k in 15 days. So that's about 3,334 words a day that I need to do. Also, I have to run errands tomorrow (which isn't exactly easy, since I have to ride my bike--no car!). So... I'm trying to figure out the best schedule for writing.

Does anyone else have a writing schedule they plan on keeping, or is everyone basically just going to write all the time?

Just a bit more than three hours before NaNo now. I think I need some tea.

But I had a question to ask as well. Is anyone writing their story in a foreign language (English for a non-native speaker would be the most common, I suspect). And why did you decide to write in a foreign language? (For those of you who live in November already, answer this question later on, when you feel the need to procrastinate. I'm just curious)

And then I realise I haven't even decided on a language yet (veering towards English at the moment). Ah, I most definitely need some tea. With... stuff in it. :D

May your quills remain as sharp as your wits!

I found a plot bank site, just in case anyone's still stuck. I've got mine - but you never know, it might help someone. They have over 2000 plots listed!

Good luck everyone!

I'm about to start writing in one hour here, whee!
