i've been trying to get my novel off the ground for almost two months, but i just can't!
it's like trying to build a flying machine by sticking feathers to an anvil.
i get hung upon little things, like what to call it, and for some reason, my writing style seems to deviate wildly D=
help plz?

I finally finished it! Made some changes from my previous post, and added several songs that were suggested. Thanks for everyone's help!

Ahavah's NaNoWriMo Space Soundtrack

It's good; give it a looksie. Then add me on YouTube if you want.

I'm pretty sure that this is allowed, because I remember our mighty mod [livejournal.com profile] alison_sky doing it last year. I for one found it extremely helpful. Here's the theory:

Some of us are lagging behind on our word counts. Now, if I'd been writing the suggested 1,667 words every day I'd be on 20,000 today, and I'm not. Today is the time to change that. Today is the day for all of us sluggards to pull ourselves back up.

I challenge you (and me, come to that) to do your utmost to get to that 20K today. First, reply to this post with your word count. Then go away and write. And write. And write. And write. Then, when you're done for the day, come back and reply to your first comment with your new word count. If the number is larger than 20,000, congratulations! If it has gone up, you're doing well. If it has stayed the same... write some more. And if it's gone down you're doing something wrong.

If you're ahead of the game, do drop by with encouraging messages. We'll appreciate it.

And don't confuse this with the Word Count of the Day thread, which is a bit further down the page.

ETA: OK, there's been a very positive response to this, so I'll run some more catch-up sessions throughout the month. It's very comforting to know that there are other people in the same boat, isn't it? Good luck, everybody!

Before I begin, a big thank you to the people who commented on the last post - your right, zombies will never be old.

I'm just worried about something else now. I had half an hour spare whilst in college today so I did a bit of writing. I ended up writing 1.5k words.

1.5K words in HALF AN HOUR???? Thats 230 words a minute people!!!!

I'm not showing off, I'm actually a bit worried. Surely this intense speed must be having an impact on my writing? Should I slow down?

(Shamless plug: The first two chapters of the novel are posted on MY livejournal. Chapter three will be up soon but then I'll stop posting it, since I've heard its bad to do that for copyright reasons or something.)

And I suppose, whilst I'm here, I was thinking of having a sex scene in my book. Now, me being an innocent, pure, ugly, seventeen year old virgin, I have never experienced sex, so is it still a good idea to include it in a book? It'll be a bit tricky to write about something I've had no experience of.

Ok. I'm stuck.

I have a bunch of people sitting sitting around a dinner table. They are obnoxiously wealthy. What are they jabbering pointlessly about? I can't seem to restart conversation after I got stuck on food.

Brainstorm help please?

Hi all! I don't know if you remember me from when I posted about the NaNo (fan made) Handbook and also a website of Character Sheet.

Well I found out that I did save it onto my harddrive, so I uploaded a rar file containing:
- Word file of the (I think) 5 page character sheet
- Interactive Questionnaire for your character
- 177 characteristic ticky box trait list and finally
- Rescuing your plot (50 Plots, and part 2 - e.g. your two main characters get stuck in a small space)
- and finally I threw in a female name randomizer excel sheet.

If you are interested, it is uploaded here (987kb).

Hope you guys find it useful!

So, my two MCs are theater students and decide to "act" in real life-- so they take on characters and go different places and act ridiculous... basically. That's a pretty horrible summary, but yeah.

I need help thinking of different places and/or characters for them to go to/ be :D

(examples of what I've gotten so far):
-homeless people in the park
-trannies at a gay bar
-go to a church
-go to the zoo

and I'll have them do some other stuff, like writing anonymous letters and sticking them in random mailboxes (this strengthens their ability to write scripts/ monologues)
calling help-lines, etc. (strengthens their ability to do voices/ stay in character without worrying about posture and movement)

Anything that has to do with the MCs making up characters/ being someone else

Thanks a ton! Good luck to everyone who's writing :)

(and sorry if I screwed up posting... just let me know, I'll fix whatever.)

Help! Music is VITAL to my writing process.
The novel I'm doing is set in the desert, in the middle of nowhere.
If you have any recommendations for music that reminds you of:
The Desert
Close sibling relationships
or
The weird, odd, or supernatural

...or just good music, in general.

Please let me know!
Thanks much.
