I get it. I finally get what everyone's talking about when they start talking about their characters telling them things.

I have three MCs, two girls and a boy, and I had a hard time getting inside the head of the boy when he's an adult (the scenes from childhood were less of a problem). He's the least like me, and I just didn't understand him, so I haven't written any scenes from his point of view.

Then, last night, I was thinking about the scene I'm writing today instead of sleeping, and I got it. He helps her on with her coat. Of *course* he helps her on with her coat. He's in loooove with her. And a lot more mature about it than I thought originally, a lot less like infatuation and a lot more like love.

Shame he's going to get jerked around so horribly before she believes it.

So I'm not all the way inside his head, and he needs a sub-plot and I need to spend some time with just him and not in the context of my other two MCs in the introduction, but it helped.

Poor you... I mean, once they get started it's just yap-yap-yao! Honestly; it's worse than taking a kindergarten to the supermarket; "I want this, I want that..."

Well; I can see from the other comments that it doesn't seem to bother everybody that much... Maybe I just have really awfull MCs? One of them is terribly rude, that's for sure, and not just as in "impolite"!

If they're really that bad, you can threaten that if they don't shut up, you'll run them over with a train or something of that ilk. And threaten to do it graphically.

Or, if you can't afford to kill them, you can just threaten to have them lose a toe or three to frostbite. That'll show 'em, ungrateful little bastards.

DAMN IT!!! -They know only too well that as I have only two MCs I need to keep them both alive and kicking in order to have two parallel narratives running down through the story! Big-headed bastards...

MC: We're foster kids.
Me: *surprised* You are? I didn't know that.
MC: Duh! Why do you think my sister is so damn co-dependent.
Me: Wow.
MC: Dummy.

Hey, that sounds like at least a whole 'nother scene of backstory for your characters! Excellent. :)
