If your NaNoWriMo novel (this year's or any previous one) were to be made into a motion picture right now, who would be your dream cast and which characters would they play?
This year focused on just one character for the majority of the story, and considering the story, I would want him to be an unknown actor. Of course I'd borrow a page from Stephen King, and find a small part in the movie to play myself.
I had a few thoughts while I was working on it. One role was a stationmaster, and there's a particular character actor who'd be good for it, but now I can't remember who he is. I try to never think in terms of a teleplay while I'm actually writing -- such fancy is for idle moments, and simply foolish most of the rest of the time -- but at various points, I thought the MC might be well played by Mia Kirshner, and her counterpart role by Lauren Lee Smith. That's obviously not the result of careful thought, but rather random thoughts that strayed into my conscious for no ther reason than that I'd been watching too much of The L Word.
While writing my 2002 novel, I sometimes saw a somawhat older Molly Ringwald fitting the part; that notion was based not in her well-known roles (The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, etc.), but for her role in a little-known film called Office Killer. It was really a case of superficial appearance, I think.
Growing up and living in a thriving multimedia culture, it's perhaps inevitable that when we write, we catch vivid glimses of our characters, sometimes wearing the faces, voice, or mannerisms of actual actors. And I suppose it's equally difficult to ignore the secret wish, however irrational, that something we write might become a teleplay, and who would play the various roles. I think this is fine and harmless, so long as we don't start writing the characters with an actual actor in mind.
Oooh...lessee Beline would be played by Jessica Alba, and Rand'l played by Keanau Reeves. Lightfather Dan'l by Charles Durning and the evil Major Char'l by Gary Oldman. Beline's father, Prince Rob't, would be Tom Hanks; her mother would be Susan Sarandon. And the direction would be (who else?) Peter Jackson.

Don't know...I've never really pictured my characters as having the faces of celebrities. I think Natalie Portman might be good as my MC. I think my MC has that two sided Padme-Amidala from Episode I thing going on. Usually a bright-eyed character but she can be stone faced when needed. But I'm not too crazy about the way Portman portrayed that character so I don't know.
Brian Blessed and Ralph Finnes (sp.?) would have to be in it, as main supporting cast, Helena Bonham Carter would be one love-interest of our hero, played by Elijah Wood?
