I'm going with mystery - I've got my characters, scenes, interplay, everything except for motive. Really the mystery backing is mostly about how it's going to affect the characters, so the culprit is secondary to how we get there. At least that's what I'm telling myself is the reason I have no motive.

I need a motive for 3-4 kidnappings of high schoolers.

You could always sort through the Staple Mystery Motives (Love, Sex, Money, Revenge) and twist one to work with your plot. And of course, there's the glorious excuse of having your villain be a total psychopath! Which means fun, creepy backstory that would give him reason to be doing these things, which means that YOU get to exploit it for the sake of your word count!

Battle Royale [book or movie] comes to mind!

Class of kids are shipped off to island to kill each other, basically, last one alive wins.

It's punishment.Basically, Japan makes this law that every year or something one class participates in BR

The one teacher who basically led it in the movie was stabbed by a student so he was very bitter towards kids and everything. They're getting disrespectful and everything. So they go on this bus and are drugged and wake up with these thing son their necks that blow up by the end of three days. Whole thing's really frantic and heartbreaking because it goes back and shoes their stories.. :(

AMAZING BOOK/MOVIE, SERIOUS. It'll inspire you for sure even if that's not quite what you're looking for, I promise
