Date: 2012-10-27 11:21 am (UTC)I'm currently scrambling to try and finish last year's story before November is upon us, but I don't think I'm going to make it (I mean, seriously, that's five days to take a story from 79k to the end, which at this rate is looking to be about another 15 or 20 thousand words... argh), particularly as I'm also revising for two exams (driving theory on Tuesday, medical admissions test on Nov 7th)... but that is information nobody cares about, shut up Jormy.
This year, I'm going back to my roots and trying to write high fantasy. I write a lot of other stuff, though, including poetry and fanfic and RP, so there's that about me. I have chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia, which is a pain in the ass when you're trying to get stuff done, but I soldier on. I'm nineteen, British, and really bad at introductions.
Nice to meet you!

Date: 2012-10-27 12:04 pm (UTC)I'm also British, twenty-something, married to a student who's doing NaNo and a dissertation proposal at the same time, and presently enduring post-convention blues, which doesn't make much sense because said con was pretty dire. I've only won NaNo once, and I had help, so this year I'm trying a new approach and using a well known planning method to get me adequately plotted and prepared. So far it's a little hit and miss, but optimism is the word of the day.

Date: 2012-10-27 01:39 pm (UTC)I found out about Nano about three years ago. Two years ago I actually contemplated doing Nano because I was between jobs but I didn't get further than having an idea and then I found a job as a pizza delivery girl and didn't have the time.
And last year I definitely didn't have the time as I worked fulltime and I found that making graphics was a more rewarding hobby for me than writing. But this year I'm only working halftime and even more importantly with the Glee fandom I found a playground in which I actually love to write. Before that, writing was a chore which I sometimes did to get the ideas out of my head but never really enjoyed because I couldn't 'picture' the characters, they didn't talk to me like they do now.
So I've decided that before I never get to write down those ideas, I'd rather cheat a bit and write fanfiction AU. That way, I don't have to invent the characters, they're already there and I can just put them in the surroundings of 'my' world.
Which means that basically, the story I'll attempt to write in November is the same one I was thinking about writing two years ago, an historical romance in which the main characters are gay. Because I love historical romances and there actually are some that have gay characters, but they never explore this in detail. So I'm gonna do that. :)
I'm excited to be a part of this community and I'm especially looking forward to the sprints.

Date: 2012-10-28 03:49 pm (UTC)Um, yeah... I'm a 25 year old mother of a one year old. He, alone, is going to make NaNo this year a fun experience as I pull him off various pieces of furniture before he breaks himself while trying to pound out my novel. Heh.
Good luck!
