[identity profile] writingvixen.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] nanowrimo_lj
There are rumors circulating that LJ is trying to turn into Tumblr - not an exaggeration. There is a leaked site preview that will go live in the spring and they announced to their russian base that they're doing away with paid account and paid account benefits.

I don't know what next year will bring for us here.

We have no intention on leaving at this point. (I say we even though I'm really the only owner here anymore, but I feel better saying we.) However, if things become unusable or if everyone jumps ship, I wanted to reserve a place for THIS community to go elsewhere online.

I created a dreamwidth. Unfortunately nanowrmio was taken and is an unused community that hasn't been written in in over 190 months - sigh, so I did the next best name: http://nanowrimo-lj.dreamwidth.org/

You're welcome to join or bookmark that in case we need it for next year. That will be the official community, IF we leave.

And we're not planning on it yet, but I like to be well, well, well prepared.

We're not going to do anything with it now, so if you join don't expect updates over on your dreamwidth, but as a friend, as your friend and community leader, I want to urge you to grab a name on dreamwidth you like, if possible, because LJ might very well not last another year.

We are also on facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/356974337727721/ I understand if you don't want your real name known, but might I make a suggestion? Make a facebook for joining that if you don' wish to use your real name. I understand that's an issue for some people. I just want to maintain communication with all of you.

thank you. What a crummy thing to throw at us, lj, hours before our nanowrimo, but we must be prepared.

There are comments from 2003 on that journal at dreamwidth.... It's very odd.

if you don't mind could you post the link to the leaked new version? I'm curious. I haven't been on LJ as long as some people...but I would be very sad if it turned into some version of tumblr. That's what I like about LJ. It isn't tumblr.

thanks. I think I'm going to import my journal soon. This is getting ridiculous :/

I saw this and I'm currently moving everything to dreamwidth. If LJ keeps this up, there won't be an LJ anymore.

Better to be safe than sorry, right?

Of course, I'm already on Dreamwidth, anyway. When we had some problems with it some time ago, a fellow LJ user sent me an invite there.

I have not imported my journal from here to there. I've never cross-posted, either. It's been there as a back-up journal. If LJ turns Tumblr, though... I'm on Tumblr, too. I followed some artist friends there, because I like following them (and I met most of those artist friends on LJ). Not that I've gone ot Tumblr often, because IMO, it's not exactly user-friendly.

Ive just sent a request to the FaceBook group under my non fandom name. On my friends page there is an option to switch to the new format, its horrible. I dont think Ill migrate to DreamWidth but I will follow on FB. Im not sure what I'll be doing here as yet.

I'm not going to voluntarily switch. One thing I'd always liked about LJ was, it's LJ, not Tumblr, nor FB, not MySpace. If they're going to follow the herd, they may stampede off a cliff.

Additionally if you do choose to come over to Dreamwidth (and before you delete your LJ account if you so choose), make sure to claim your LJ openids. You can find instructions how to do that here http://www.dreamwidth.org/support/faqbrowse?faqid=84

I'm just totally shocked at LJ's actions. I like Tumblr just fine for being Tumblr. LJ is supposed to be LJ NOT FB nor Twitter nor Tumblr for goodness sake!

I've joined the dreamwidth comm and the FB comm under my real name ;)

I don't use my real name on FB anyway.

Not surprised, really. For the most part, I've migrated over to DW and only keep this journal to follow a few comms (like this one).

I sent a request to join the FB group under my real name.

This disappoints me. I like how everything was separate. I liked what LJ is, and not what it is expected to become. I will bookmark this community for the future, and I also joined on FB. :)

I saw the LJ Releases post, and not gonna lie, this was the first thing I thought of after I finished shrieking NOOOOOOOOOO. I'd seen the new dashboard friend's page, but I hadn't heard about the complete redesign and elimination of paid accounts/features. I'm ... I'm actually upset about this.

Anyway, I'm glad this community is setting up an exit strategy; let's just hope we don't need it, truly.

I hope you don't mind if I also plug Image (http://nano-writers.dreamwidth.org/profile)nano_writers (http://nano-writers.dreamwidth.org/)? Because so far as I'm concerned there's no such thing as too much nano support.

Another suggestion is maybe talking to the people at DW? If it's a clearly abandoned comm you could try to get in touch with the maintainer and if that doesn't work, there's a chance that the staff at DW might actually make you a maintainer of the comm so that it can be active. The staff there is marvelously helpful and considerate about things most of the time.

Yeah... I'm always going to be on LJ. I do have a Dreamwidth but I can never remember the login... if the poo does hit the fan I'd be happy to see some of you on my writing site though.
