Hi all, and argh! It's October, and I'm still desperately trying to finish editing/rewriting last year's Nano before November rolls around. Anybody else doing this?

I have to finish last year's so I can know exactly what happened at the end, because this year I'm writing the sequel. And there is substantial editing to be done, so the details of what happens at the end might actually change a bit. I do know that my main character escapes and makes it across the river. But just how, and who shoots who...well that remains to be seen. Hopefully I can pull it out of my @$$ in a few more days :-p

This is my third year doing Nano. I didn't make it last year. I'm going to try again, however. So I'm really nervous about failure.

I also am the official maintainer of this community. Which is fine, because I don't think I could keep up with both LJ and the message boards on the official site.

I'm beginning to be enthusiastic about this project. I have no clue what I'm actually going to do, but hey, at least I reallyreally want to do it now!

Hi,

This is my fourth year participating in Nano, and I am DETERMINED to finish this year! As I have the time and energy to devote to it, I'm planning on it!

I have charcters and a plot, and so as other's have said, when's November?

Feel free to add me if you wish-- I could use more nano-mindedness!

I may be crazy for this, but I know there are folks out there in denver who are doing Nano this year and who have kids. I would be willing to watch children for parents doing nano meet ups, writing time ect. I am a cheap reasorce, have my own kids, and also have experiance watching children from birth to 9 years. The only catch is, I don't drive.

Someone suggested possibly starting a new community for EotDs and that sort of stuff, so I did. ([livejournal.com profile] eotd) Post there if you want, if you don't that's okay too. I was just in a creationary mood. :P

This is the first year I've ever heard of NaNoWriMo, and the first year that I'm doing it. Of course, after I signed up, I realized that I'm gone from home/away from a computer for 12 days of the month, but I'm not backing out. I borrowed a clunker-laptop from my bestfriend, and I'm set to go.

I can't WAIT to get started. I've had a plot since June but had lost enthusiasm about writing. This challenge has given me renewed resolve. Until Nov. 1, I'm doing character sketches/storyline development/pre-writing.

My SN on the NaNoWriMo forums is bk_kennedy. I have written a "novel" before, in the guise of an HP fanfic about Harry's parents. I'm actually working on my second novel in that fanfic genre. My first novel took me just under 3 months to complete. It's that which gives me hope for this. I wrote around 120 pages in one month. I can double that! In fandom, my pen name is Phoenix_Song every where except at ff.net, where I am bethany_jean.

This is my first year for NaNo, and I'm rather excited. I even have a possible plot, though it's being rather pissy at the second. It's going to be a Full Metal Alchemist AU, and I've officially declared myself insane. I just realized that Sugoicon is in the middle of Nov, which means I'll be gone for four days. Which also means that I'll be sitting in odd places at the con, scribbling in a notebook. So, if you go to Sugoicon, and see someone dressed as Sanzo writing frantically, that's most likely me.

Also, I live near the Corydon, Indiana area, if anyone is from around here. I go to IUS on a regular basis, and would love to meet up with some people.

I already posted this in the Off-topic forum at the nanowrimo website, but since I'm some kind of posting/attention whore, I will post it here as well.

This isn't as interesting as you might expect it to be.

For my Behavioral Science class, I am to write a paper on a subculture I am part of. In the paper, I must describe rituals, traditions, symbols and signs of this subculture, and how it has impacted me. I must also describe the norms (behavior expected within society), folkways (more lenient norms), mores [more- rays] (uncompromisable norms), values, and customary patterns of behavior in the subculture.

My subculture of choice is, of course, nanowrimo, and all it encompasses.

Now, the real reason I am annoying you with this post is a request for aid. I would like to compile a glossary of sorts. All of the terms used in the nanowrimo, but hardly anywhere else. For example: nanovels, wrimos, and nanos. People outside of the NaNoWriMo community would have no idea who or what you are referring to, but to all of you here, these terms make perfect sense. If you know of any other terms, please offer them up with their definitions, and I will be excessively grateful.

Most of the other aspects of nanowrimo subculture, I think I have a pretty good handle on...

So, thankyou for taking the time to read this, and thankyou more if you help me out. Otherwise I'll just stalk the forums and make up terminology on my own. ^_^; Ta ta.

The terms I have so far are (shall be continuously added onto for your convenience):

  • nanovels
  • nanos
  • wrimos
  • TGIO parties
  • ML's
  • plot ninjas
  • busty lesbian pirate cabbages
  • plot bunnies
  • dares
  • MC's
  • "Join the dark side... we have cookies"
  • urinal cakes
  • N.E.R.D. Co.
  • NaNoWriMo
  • nanoer
  • NaNoWriYe
  • NaNoEdMo
  • nano as a verb --- to nano, nanoing, nanoed
  • Dorf Man and Mr. Ian Woon
  • NaNoManGo
  • Alma Hronic

  • Word-count

Oh yeah, and the link to the post in the forum is: uh... this.

So, as it is mentioned above, thankyou for taking the time to read this post. All contributions are, as you know, very much appreciated. Have a nice day!

Edit: The paper was pretty disappointing, since I could hardly use any of the terms within the 2pg boundary. If you are interested in reading it anyway, do say so and supply your e-mail address, so I can e-mail the mess to you. Now that that's over, I'll be making a miniature glossary. ;] Thanks to everyone for the suggestions!

First year Nano'er here.

I write often but can never seem to stick to one story, and whatever computer is closest to me at that moment I use it to write with (there's five computers), so now I have snipets of writing scattered all over the place, and I don't know which belongs with which, and then there's multiple copies here and there making me not know which is the lastest version of whatever story, or which I added on to at a whim of a moment ... and well, you get the picture. So Nano will be my motivater to stick to one story and actually finish it, or be an egg.

And I'm controlling my wander lust by limiting myself to my laptop... too bad I can't *%&#$! figure out how to get the special "top dash" key on it! It's giving me a tick. Where's the *#$@$! manual?

My Nano story is a fantasy, and it has a guy, and a girl, and kings that die, and bigamy, and swords... well, I'm still in the plotting process >:( , but if you're interested, add me and I'll add you back.

I had deleted my writing LJ for some stupid reason, but now I have it back, and I plan to actually document my NaNo progress this time around. And since people seem to like introductions, here's mine.

I'm Andi. I'm young, but not insanely young, old enough to at least know what I'm talking about. My plot's definitely on the strange side -- leaning toward calling it Fugue, but the point being that it's about an amnesiatic woman who wakes up alone in a house on a hill full of old things. She has no idea who or where she is, and gets scared and basically wanders until she finds someplace where people can help her.

And then it gets pretty creepy from there. She has to use the stuff in the house to figure herself out, get help from the people she meets, and they find some pretty weird things involved in it. As someone who prefers to lean toward comedy, writing this story is a stretch. At least my first-person narrator does have enough of a cynical sense of humor to actually allow me to put some of it in.

It's cool to meet all of you people -- some of you yet again, not that I was very social. This is my 4th year doing NaNo.

Feel free to add this LJ, which is writing-specific, and comment on my post to get on my Nanofilter, since I post all my plot notes, snippets, etc, and I love having readers and critiquers!

How are you all plotting your outlines? (If you even are doing outlines)

Do you do chapter by chapter outlines?

How many chapters do you think are necessary? How do you decide how many to have?

I was thinking of maybe breaking it down to a chapter a day, so 30 chapters. I only have the first three outlined. What do you think of this idea?

NaNo'ing Progress—I have a plot idea! It's generally crappy, but at least it's THERE. It's not like I have one brilliant idea that I've just been dying to write: I wish. No, it's more like I'm desperately scrounging around for an idea—ANY idea—to write about. My strength is the writing, not the plotting. I can develop characters and write an interesting piece like nobody's business, but the preparation beforehand? The making of the plot and the outline? Heh... not so much. Character development alone makes a crappy novel. But that's originally what was in my mind: I had this wonderful character that just sprung out, Athena-like, but I have no idea what to do with her.

So now I'm trying to decide what's worse: no plot at all, or a plot that you're not entirely behind? I don't know. Here's a bit of what I'm thinking:

Shot blurb—please read! )

What think you? I seriously need feedback. Is it entirely cliche? Been done too many times before? Above all, does it sound like something a Suethor would write? That's one of my biggest fears—turning into one of those that I despise. Please drop me a short line with your initial reaction. I could really use it.

Hi, this is my first year participating in NaNoWriMo.

I think I heard something vague last year, and had no idea what it was. I'm very excited about it. I tried joining [livejournal.com profile] hundredwords but I like to write in order, and I think I could do this more effectively. (fingers crossed.) I do have to study for end of year exams and things, too, especially in German, but we'll see.

My user name on the NaNo site, ff.net, fictionpress.net, TtH and GAFF is RoseWill. It's the name I use to write fanfic (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Harry Potter, and the West Wing particularly).
But my name is actually Alexis. There's a story behind that, but not 50k words. I go to Melbourne Uni and am interested to see how many others here are from Melbourne.

I think I'll write a real version of my fantasy story, Hope's Child, bits of which are on fp.com and [livejournal.com profile] orderofwisards. I'll keep writing the character drabbles for it, and the timeline. But I know the rules about using anything that I've written before. I think this is a good thing.
