Well, I guess I should say hello before the insanity begins.

Hi there. My name's Hanna and I'm one of many masochistic first timers. I found out about Nano last year midway through November and was very bummed about not being able to participate. I've been obsessing over this year's since midway through August, and I still don't have a very clear idea of where I'm going to go with my story. I've been writing for a long time, exactly how long is hazy. The earliest piece I can find is a horrible Mary Sue Pokemon fic from 5th or 6th grade. I've gotten better. I swear. I live in Montreal and though being on the verge of entering university, I have no idea what I want to do with my life. :)

Though I usually write fanfiction, I've always wanted to do something original and chock full of high fantasy. Oddly enough, my story so far revolves around a spirit world in the Toronto underground that as far as I can tell is a weird mixture of Charles de Lint's urban fantasies, Miyazaki's Spirited Away, and various fairytales relating to the faerie courts. The plot is fragmented and utterly insane. There is no title. I am going to die, but at least I'll go down writing!

Hi!

My name is Kit, and I'm hoping that the third time is the charm for finishing NaNo. *crosses fingers*

My as-yet-untitled WIP is a military SF/trial drama. It actually has two plots to it, but I'm considering just writing one or the other of them straight through for NaNo, then going back and doing the other after the first of the year. But we shall se.

Like many people here, I have a NaNo journal. Mine is [livejournal.com profile] nano_kitten; most of my entries are friends only, and the actual story entries will all be for obvious reasons. If you want to be friended, just ask.

Anyway, since I'm kinda yammering here, I'll sign off and get back to character creation. Seeya around, and happy writing!

My name is Bloomingflax. I participated in NaNoWriMo last year, and crafted an out-of-focus novel called "The Rebellion of the Bloomingflax Crochet Circle". This year I'm writing about pipe organists in space. Tentatively, this novel will be titled "Nav Song". Hopefully the shorter title won't seriously undercut my word count. =)

Hi! This is my first year doing NaNoWriMo and I'm so excited! I can't quite classify my novel, other than it's going to be sort of a medical mystery thriller kind of thing. I won't get ito here--because I don't have all of the pieces yet--but if anyone's interested in hearing about it, check out my LJ. I'll be posting there all through the NaNo process.

It's great to see that so many other people on LJ are doing NaNo too!

'lo ladies and gents =D I'm another one of those first time NaNoers. I've written stuff before, but never a NaNo, so this could be interesting. Or torture. Possibly both.

I've been wanting to do one for the past two years, but year 11 assignments and year 12 end of year exams have been getting in the way (damn j00 for making NaNoWriMo in November, right at the end of school. In the Southern Hemisphere, at least). However, now I'm a slack-arse uni student doing an Arts degree which finishes essentially on the 5th, and with only one exam. Score~

Anyway. The NaNo. I have a thing about swords and desert fantasy, hence my story of the moment (Silent Harmony) is set in my desert kingdom of Raykin. For this project tho, I think I'll pick a random guy training for Raykin's army, specifically with throwing knives, just cos I have too many characters with swords. I like swords X) We'll make Random Bloke #56 bad with a sword, just to be different.

I am still trying to choose between a number of ideas I have for novels, which one will I use for Nano!

I have one that's been in development for a long time. I know the plot and the characters very well and have done all kinds of research and pre-writing for it. Basically, it's done in my head I just need to sit down and write it out. I thought I might use this for Nano.

I also have a two ideas ideas that are just sort of floating that I have the basis for the premise and the main character, but don't have anything definite.

I see advantages and disadvantages to both.

On one hand, I see that it might be a great boon to just "free write" with a premise and see where it goes and how it develops as I am writing. I can see how it might be a lot faster to just sit down every day and just say "Ok, where is THIS 1,500 ish going?" It would keep me writing hot and bubble enthusiasm, kind of like a one person RPG. I think it would be harder to write very quickly when I'm trying to work out pre-planned scenes and plot points. I also think that it could be very useful, if I get stuck with this format, to be able to go and add earlier scenes that would provide foreshadowing and lead up to the scenes as they develop until I get stuck, and would even help me get unstuck.

I've even considered writing one of my ideas in a journal format, writing an entry a day for my main character and helping it move along that way.

On the other hand, I fear getting totally lost and having to give up or, god forbid, start over.

Does anyone have any advice?

Top 10 reasons why I am accepting the Nanowrimo challenge.

10. I work great under impossible deadlines. This is something I might just be able to finish.
9. I have been encouraged to participate by more than two people.
8. I have a great idea.
7. I have a 35 line (and growing) outline.
6. I have new neighbors (it's an omen)
5. The exercise will keep me from watching yet another political attack ad.
4. World peace
3. I don't drink coffee or alcohol, surf porn sites or smoke -- I need a serious vice.
2. My wife may be planning a trip to visit her parents for a month. (See reason 3)
1. I have a brand new laptop -- the keys are still springy and fresh!

Hi, intro post here. I'm Julian, from NYC, age 22. My regular LJ is [livejournal.com profile] happyelfling and this is my nano-LJ. This is my first time doing nanowrimo.

I'm planning on posting my novel (friends-only, of course) to my nano-LJ as I write it. Is anyone else doing this? I'm interested in amassing a friends[1] list of people who are posting their novels as they write and/or interested in reading a novel that is posted as it's written. I think this would help me write.

My novel is a YA lesbian coming-of-age story. I'm interested in other YA novels, sci-fi, chick lit, literary fiction, and well... I'll try anything, really. Comment here or on [livejournal.com profile] hpyelfling_nano if you're interested, and I'll add you.

[1]By "friends" I mean "complete strangers" (or "vague acquaintances"). The thought of letting my friends read my potentially crappy novel is... scary.

I have no plot.
I know HOW I want to write my novel, but I have no plot... and actually, asking people to give me plots is really a notoriously terrible way to get myself going. Without fail, I end up hating all the suggestions, or just resenting them.

it's like when I ask someone to help me name a character...and all they give me are lame character names... then I just feel more annoyed than anything else by their suggestions.

does anyone else have this problem?
