Once you finish, and you go back to your life, or if you're doing more than 50K or more than one novel (I plan on doing three this month). When you go back to doing your daily routine, or even after writing you go back to work/school, is it just me or do you feel different? I guess like a different sense of your self, or pride in your abilities?

Also, what about when you finish your novel(s) and you go back to highschool/college English classes, ever feel like the work you do in there is simple compared to NaNo?

I do...

I figure I'll be done with my first novel this month, in two days. And, hey to all my fellow Third Years on here too!

I've got 10,000 words already and I'm thinking of scrapping them because the plot is boring me.

... actually, what I think I'll do is arrange an early meeting with the villain. Then I'll have the villain loose her shit when the main character refuses to join her, set all the monsters loose that she's been holding in check, and have the main characters rescued by a spaceship, thus turning the plot from plain ol' horror to sci-fi/horror/god only knows. Yeah, that'll work.

Hey everyone, I really need a snip of music for one of my male main character to get stuck in his head right now. It has to be something that makes innuendos about being sexually talented while not stating it in any specific terms. Both of the main characters are experiencing some sexual frustration and are going to continue to do so for a little while longer and since the male main character is someone who always has a soundtrack in the back of his head, I really need to come up with a piece of music that can stomp around in his head taunting him with what he doesn't get to have right now.

And no, I don't want to use the Prince song about being a "talented boy"...

Come on folks, give me a hand coming up with a really good earworm!

I wondered if anyone else, like me, hates the process of writing even while needing to write stories. I love to tell stories, but writing them (long ones, like novels, anyway) is pure torture.

I guess that makes me sound like a masochist for doing NaNo, but it's the impetus for getting one done. The reason I continue is because it feels so good to have written one. (Also just the need to tell stories.)

I have several pages written of odd, nonscensical storyline involving vampires, models, and aliens.

I have a vague idea where this is going, but not a solid one. Then again, none of my writing ever -is- very solid...it's more expressive...more Picasso-like than Rembrant, for the artistically inclined.

I wish I could just stay home and write all day; that would be absolutely ideal..

[Sorry to the mod for not following rules earlier.]

Can someone explain what a "Word war" is and how it works?

Damn you YouTube! You have wasted hours of my time.

I am now trying to find a suitable peice of music to accompany my next few hours of writing. Then, once I've done that, I will write something.

I'm at a difficult point in the story.

Okay, maybe I'm just really really slow or something... but when I multiply the daily word "goal" (1667) by the number of days... (6) I get a total like this = 10,002. However, when I use one of the widgets on the NaNo site, I get this:

Granted, it makes me look better, but still, what's with the difference?

I'm expecting most of you are using computers to write your novel, but I was wondering, is anybody using plain old notebook paper? I started a day late and I must be two thousand words behind. Luckily, school will be off soon and I can catch up maybe during vacation.

But are you guys finding it frustrating after using the computer? I feel like pulling out my hair; I bet I'll be ahead if I had a laptop and I wasn't stuck in middle school, trying to write the novel. Pen and paper have certain qualities that make it better than computers (laptops!) but I...am...going....way...too....slow!

I finally figured out what I've been doing wrong. Every year I feel like I have to have this long, tedious section at the beginning where my characters find out all about what's going on. You know what I mean; One of those "You're a wizard, Harry" moments, only mine last for eight chapters or so before exciting things begin to happen. This year, I haven't even gotten to that point yet! My characters are still all meeting each other and having stupid, pointless conversations!

Well I'll tell you what's going to happen now. I'm going to start over from a point where my characters have already met and already know everything. And no matter what ridiculous things happen, everyone will act as if they are perfectly normal, and no wise old men will try to explain the nature of the universe or why everything happens. It just DOES, okay?

And I will have chocolate and be happy and write 10,000 words or so tonight so I won't feel like a complete loser.

Muahaha.

Hi folks, I was wondering if I might be able to get your help on something.

I have a scene in my novel that takes place at the Macy's (And if I spelled that wrong let me know, please)Thanksgiving Parade in New York City. I need as much description of what that experience is like as possible, because I am totally blind and thus have never seen it. Where does it start? What kinds of music do they play? Are there high school bands as in other cities, or is it different somehow? I have some sense of what they carry on the floats, but I'd like to know more.

I know that nothing would beat actually going to the parade for me in terms of capturing the feeling, but well I doubt that will happen, unfortunately. If you've been there, it would be great to hear from you. Alternatively, if you have some websites to suggest where I could read up on it, I would appreciate that as well. Thanks to all and good luck with your writing!
