Anyone here reach a point with Nano where the 50k isn't much of a challenge anymore? Maybe you get up to 100k or even more and you do Nano cause it's tradition, like hogging the good candy from your kid's Halloween stash once they go to bed. Now I don't do that, no sirree! I'm just sayin'. Well I've kind of reached that point. It made me want to combine Nano with another challenge and a love of my life--drawing. Yes. NaNoDrawWriMo! Or just Nano for the writing and DrawMo for the drawing. You'd essentially draw 50 drawings in a month. 1.3 (or whatever) drawings each day. They would be whatever you wanted. Use the month to practice hands if you're lousy at hands, or draw Snoopy and the Red Baron all month. Or flies. I think it could work if you didn't try to hit high word counts (above the 50k mark). Write a chapter, then pick up the pencil or Wacom and go.

If I went through with this, would anyone want to participate?

I know my friend [livejournal.com profile] canadianevil managed over 100k on her last NaNo. I look at her in stunned awe.

I haven't gotten there yet. But then again this year is only my second NaNo.

I think they already have a spin-off group of Nanowrimo for artists, but specifically for comics/manga/graphic-novels... It's called NaNoMangO I believe...

Honestly, the 50,000 word requirement was never particularly challenging for me. Oh, sure, it takes a certain level of willpower to get myself to stick with the story long enough to reach my word goals every single day, but I'm a fast typist, and it only takes me about an hour to write 2,000 words. But the 2k-a-day (with 5 throw-away days) is a comfortable amount for me, and manageable on the days when I REALLY don't feel like writing, so rather than increasing the amount that I require for myself, I try to make it challenging by doing things like writing in unfamiliar genres and styles, or doing a challenging plot, or NOT allowing myself excessive word-padding, or trying to create something that I think is actually well-written as well as lengthy. Your idea is also nice. I try to make a habit of drawing on a daily basis anyway, so that DOES sound kind of fun, although I would worry that it would maybe feel more like two SEPARATE challenges. But hey, if you started it up, I'm very likely to take it on anyway, because I'm obsessive like that. :P

This will be my sixth NaNo, and yes, it's almost a fore-drawn conclusion at this point that I will make 50k. I'm curious about your idea. I agree with 10cents that it sounds more like a separate challenge. How would you moderate it? What would the requirements on a "drawing" be (you don't want someone drawing 50 stick figures and saying they won, after all)? Would participants have to scan in their drawings and send them in to be verified?

It's gotten easier, but it's still enough of a challenge that I like it. This year I'm adding to the challenge by planning my novel- in the past, this has caused me to fail, so I predict pain.

Um, 50k is shockingly, near-impossibly hard for me.

I don't have a lot of room left over in my life. For anything.

I did 100K once and it was HARD. I did it, but I was pretty much always writing. :) But yeah, this will be my seventh NaNo, and I've gotten to the point where it's tradition. So I try to add a little challenge in some way every year. This year, my friend has challenged me to only check my word count once a week, and see what happens. Should be interesting!

Unfortunately, I can't draw to save my life. :) But I think it is an awesome idea!

I haven't even reached 25k yet, but then again I'm always a student went I do it.
I hope to reach 25k this year, it's my own personal goal.
