I hate my novel. My characters keep gushing out their feelings on topics like a bunch of sappy drunks sitting around saying, "I love you, man. No really.. IDK, my BFF YOU!!! You are the light in my sad little world. Let's always be friends, kay? No, really, pinky swear on it!!!!" I have a sudden fear that they'll burst into the Barney song soon.

You could make up some better characters, have the new ones shoot the old ones in the head and just make it revolve around their story instead. Like the old characters were a set-up?

It's nano you moron. It's "I D K, my B F F you!" If you put the spaces in, they're counted as separate words.

Hee. My main character doesn't speak. He mutters and then goes off on tangents in his head and thinks about what happened three years ago, while other characters have conversations around him. So I guess I'm saying: could be worse!

Neither of my main chars speak much. :( It makes it hard to write a bunch of useless dialog when I can't think of anything else to write, haha!

My character (note the singular) doesn't talk much either- she lives kind of an isolated life, thanks to her training. The temple she's in makes a point of discouraging socialization. When she does talk, it's usually to her cat.

The good thing, though, is that she really doesn't mind.

This for me, too. And your icon makes me happy. I love mermaids.

Let them think. Write what they are thinking.

I do, but it's still a lot more limiting than actual conversations. :)

And then one of them says "Man, you're the best friend I've got, I'm so sorry about that time I [insert horrible offense here]"
And then the other goes "Wait, that was YOU?"

Bam, instant fight, just add water :D

My novel is trying to go down the evil love triangle road, when this isn't even supposed to be a romance. :(

It's amazing how our characters take over and rule the world...well, our own created worlds.

tip: the Eisenhower propaganda song scans to the tune of the Barney the Dinosaur song.
