Hi guys! This is your NaNoWriMo is officially 10 days away. (don't shoot the messenger) With that, I give you the Daily Introduction Thread. We will be posting these for exactly two weeks, woo, so feel free to take your time and don't all clamor on the first one (or do, I don't care). What you do is post who you are, your name, your story idea, genre, etc, as well as your mother's maiden name and social sec - just kidding. :) (or am I?)
Have fun with it. NaNoWriMo is one part the challenge, but another very large part, and the reason we suspect so many of you are here for, is the community. We are here to form this community and my goal is to make sure that the relationships and community that is formed during these two months last all year. (more on that to come). So get to know each other and yourself and make some new friends!

Date: 2012-10-21 10:03 pm (UTC)As far as story idea, it's sorta cheese, but I'm actually taking an old solo D&D game I played with my husband years ago and cleaning it up and writing it out. I figure that would be an easy thing to start on. It's from years ago so I don't remember a lot of the finer points, which I think is a GOOD thing, because that'll make it easier for me to make it sound like a well-crafted story, rather than a D&D game. So, it's obviously fantasy genre, although it's also probably going to have an element of erotica... something along the lines of Jacqueline Carey, for those of you who are familiar.
I still haven't figured out a title. Everything that comes to mind is silly. The best thing I've come up with is "Game of Souls" and I would actually use it if people would not be likely to immediately presume it's fanfiction based on George R.R. Martin's books. Damn him for having already used a title similar to what I find suitable. :)

Date: 2012-10-21 10:09 pm (UTC)I used to be a pretty big writer. I'm talking writing all the time. I did a lot of writing in high school and into my first year or two of college. I had big dreams of doing the publishing thing but then I got busy, life got in the way. I stopped writing.
I'm slowly finding my way back. I've written up a children's book I'm pursing publication on but we'll see how that goes. Waiting to hear back from agent's but I realize it may or may not happen! Anyway, Nano for me is hopefully a way to push me, get me back into my creative juices. I tried it last year but I wasn't very prepared. I'm trying to motivate myself to get back into the groove. I just need to find that push again! I'll be working on a YA novel again this year. I say again because I tried last year but I didn't come close to finishing!

Date: 2012-10-21 10:17 pm (UTC)I'm a homesteading, home/unschooling hippie momma of 3 beautiful girls, ages 9, 7, & 1. The 9 & 7 yr olds will be doing NaNo with me. We live on 40 acres in SE MO, where we have too many dogs and cats, a bunch of chickens, and 4 goats (one of whom is hopefully pregnant!). We are slowly working towards self-sufficiency. VERY slowly. But we learn something every year. We're winding down on our 3rd year here - so my first year of winning was the crazy November that we actually moved here.
I almost always write some kind of spec fic. I lean heavily towards science fiction, but I also enjoy fantasy and alternate history. My other story idea is an apocalyptic tale, and my long-term nano project, 'The NaNo WonderSaga', is a blend of science fiction & fantasy both. When not NaNoing, I enjoy doing short stories and flash challenges. I'm slowly starting to get back into poetry, which I haven't done in over ten years. I've had a few things published, but never for pay. My goal is to change that, hopefully by the end of the year. If not that, next year for sure. :)
That's me! I'm Ahavah on the NaNo forums as well. Can't wait for November!

Date: 2012-10-21 10:47 pm (UTC)I never thought I'd be able to write a full novel until NaNo. I've participated in Nano since 2008 and won every year (and written outside of November) so now I have five novels under my belt. Nothing worth publishing yet, of course, but I'm learning and getting better every year. :) I read/write YA, fantasy, and sci-fi and this year I'm hoping to write a sci-fi that's a little more adult and darker about a crime syndicate and one young man's search for the truth behind his family's mysterious past. OOOoooOOOoooh!
I'm a web designer by trade and I'm working full time at the moment to support my husband as he works on his Master's Degree in Geology. I don't have any kids at the moment (unless you count my husband!) and I enjoy video games like Minecraft, WoW, and Hitman when I'm not reading everything I can get my hands on.
I'm Tibek here or on Nanowrimo.org and I'd love to have some more writing friends so feel free to add me and I'll reply in kind! :)

Date: 2012-10-21 10:49 pm (UTC)I am a Graphic Design Student, AND a major book worm. I always wanted to Participate in Nanowrimo, but wasn't sure of myself, this year I'm going to do my best (even thought its a hectic time for me, what with starting my second year at college :))
I do write a little bit, but English isn't my Native language but it's the language I love most (I read only English books or anything, and I write only in English.) the thing is that because it's not my native language I feel embarrassed about publishing anything I write to be Criticized, and It's hard to find motivation to write when you do it in secretly without knowing where you stand with your writing.
Anyway, the story I want to write for Nano is a romance fantasy thing, I guess, it's about a god of death, that feels lonely in a place he hates with people he hates around him for all eternity. But one day a reaper brings a soul to him for Judgment, and he sees one of the purest soul so far (and no, he's not perfect) and he's the first soul or being the god doesn't hate.
from here on I haven't decided yet. I don't know.
one option is that the god sends the soul to heaven and tries to find a way to be with that soul and still do he's job, or find some one to take his job.
the other option is that even though the god know he should send the soul to heaven he keeps it with him, and they become friends or maybe he makes him his reaper or something... I'm still not 100 present sure...
And that's about all, it's more then I write about myself most of the time (I'm mostly a lurker... :/)

Date: 2012-10-21 11:05 pm (UTC)I've been writing since forever, but it really slowed down my senior year of high school. Lately, I've come to realize that writing, for me, at least, has really helped control my depression and anxiety, and I've got the time, so why not try NaNo?
As far as my story goes, I've decided to go with this fantasy idea that's been rolling around in my head for a while, and I've spent this past month actually creating a world of my own, which has been fun. It mainly centers around Elves (I have a thing, okay?) and the politics between different Elves. I've got a good bit plotted out, but I still need to have it fleshed out more.

Date: 2012-10-21 11:09 pm (UTC)I haven't written anything decent for weeks/months probably, because I always feel that I'm not good enough. Also, I'm one of those people who rather write short stories than novels. I tried last year and felt that around 30,000 words my story was done. More words would have ruined it.
That's why I decided to be a Nano-rebel this year and use the NaNo-spirit to overcome my writer's block and get into daily writing again, with a daily minimum wordcound of 500 words.
My second Nano goal is to finish two open challenges which I'm carrying around for too long but don't want to abandon

Date: 2012-10-21 11:11 pm (UTC)I don't want to say too much about what I'm writing, as I fear I'll lose my inspiration if I do. But I guess the genre is somewhere along the fantasy/urban fantasy lines, though I'm very disillusioned with urban fantasy at the moment and I don't think it's really that genre anyway! I'm not quite sure how to describe it just yet! I'm a bit worried about taking on such a big task when I'm just getting back into writing, but I'm hoping this will be the push I need to get started.

Date: 2012-10-21 11:14 pm (UTC)I'll be doing something a little different this year. Instead of writing one large story based in the world I have created, I'll be doing several smaller short stories that all ultimately link together. Why? I have several characters that I've been playing/writing for nearly twenty years, and their beginnings have been almost lost in time. So, I'll be revisiting their beginnings and bringing it all back to light.
I've chosen seven characters, and have decided on 6k words for each short story. Then one slightly longer story telling the tale of two of the characters together for 10k words. That comes up to 52k words, a nice little buffer should one story fall a little short.

Date: 2012-10-22 12:19 am (UTC)Hi, I'm
My story is about a guy called Antonio Darke who is on a mission. It's a secret mission, so secret that even *he* doesn't know that he's on it. I have yet to find a title, which is driving me buggy.

Date: 2012-10-22 01:49 am (UTC)When I'm not writing, or at the very least trying to write because I know I should, I spend a lot of time playing video games (I have a bit of a soft spot for RPGs) and reading anything I can get my greedy little hands on. If I'm feeling particularly silly at any given moment, I will try to play video games, read and write all at the same time; I'm sure at least some of you can imagine how well that typically goes (spoiler: it tends to fail horribly). There is almost always music going on in the background when I'm doing anything; I have a fondness for soundtracks, with my favorites right now being those from Final Fantasy X and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, but I listen to just about anything if I consider it pleasing to the ears.
... I really think that's everything that's interesting about me. I'm also Aenrhien on the Nano site, should anyone want to be writing buddies this year.

Date: 2012-10-22 04:28 am (UTC)This year I'm being a bit of a rebel and finishing a novel I haven't worked on in well over a year. It's a fantasy novel, the 4th book in a series. If I finish it before I hit 50k, I'll start into book 5 (I have either 7 or 9 in the series...I'm not exactly sure yet)
I'm also agdhani on the NaNo site if anyone wants to find me there.

Date: 2012-10-22 08:13 am (UTC)I'm a motivated book worm who dabbles in graphic design and pondering the mysteries of writing my own published novel. I'm 29 years old who is currently unemployed - unless you count job hunting as a job in which case I make over 500K a year ;) lol j/k
I'm a horror junkie; books, movies, screenplays, etc you name it I'll love it. For each year of NaNo I have written a science fiction/horror genre book and that's not changing this year. This year my idea came from a dream I had. Without giving much away it has to do with a house, aliens, a dystopia paradise which isn't what it seems. Hopefully it'l'l be more than 50K words, but we'll see.
You can find me on the NaNo site by the name of MonkeyPrincess.

Date: 2012-10-22 05:02 pm (UTC)I'm writing a sci-fi novel about the tribulations a group of colonists face on a new and harsh planet which hides an ancient secret, and it'll be my fifth NaNo novel set in the same universe!

Date: 2012-10-22 06:08 pm (UTC)My project is a little...different. It's an original magical girl series, called "Music Land Maestress," which has a music theme. Magical girl is an anime/manga genre; think Sailor Moon, Rayearth, Mew Mew Power, etc. My work is also influenced by my love for fantasy novels and by other shows I like such as Code Lyoko, Winx Club, and W.I.T.C.H.
I can't give you much of the plot due to LJ comment character limits, but these character profiles might help: http://littechgirl.deviantart.com/gallery/39196719 (http://littechgirl.deviantart.com/gallery/39196719). The short, oversimplified version, I guess, is this: These two guys, Allegron and David, from the world of Lyra (the "music land" of the title - Lyra is a world permeated by music), are trying to save their land and its neighbor Aquarius, which were conquered by the Dissonance Kingdom, an evil kingdom representing dissonance, discord, and despair. To do so, they must find people whose hearts resonate with 12 jewels that contain the essences of Sinfonia, the "princess" of Lyra; Ranvois, the prince of Aquarius; and their protectors, who all lie mortally wounded back home and are essentially Lyra/Aquarius's only real hope of salvation. They escaped with the jewels to our world to keep them safe, but it seems the Dissonance Kingdom followed them. Now, 20 years after they arrived, the Dissonance Kingdom finally decides to show itself in our world. Allegron manages to finally find the first "jewel bearer," but he and David need to find the other 11 before it's too late.
Like I said, that's the short, oversimplified version - the plot as it stands is more complex than that.
This project is also a little different in that it is a personal project, one I never intended to publish in the usual sense. I needed motivation to start writing it, and NaNo provided the perfect opportunity. I will probably publish it online though. And if it gets attention like Fifty Shades of Grey did, cool. If not, well, I tried.
I'm pretty nervous, as this is my first time doing NaNo, but I'm going to use these next 10 days to prepare as much as I can. Still could use your prayers, wishes of luck, words of encouragement, advice, whatever you can give.

Date: 2012-10-24 01:21 am (UTC)When I say a whim, I really had no idea what to write about when I signed up, but since then I have remembered an old plot idea I've had rattling around for years. I'll need to think it over for the next few days to revamp it a bit though...
Extremely basic plot: a serial killer kidnaps and murders a pregnant woman, and her husband tracks him down, whether seeking justice or revenge he's not quite sure. There's a whole lot more to it than that of course, but...anyway.
