nebulia.livejournal.comHey, all!
This will be my seventh NaNo (and hopefully my fifth win) on my own. It will also be, however, my first NaNo done in a group round robin style (which I sort of feel defeats the purpose but it's with some good friends of mine and I don't want to be the party pooper). Last year a couple of them did it on their own, but asfaik didn't finish (neither did I, last year, sigh). We're doing it in three-day increments, with 3500-4500 words an increment (if we actually succeed, I'll be shocked, since the numbers don't add up xD).
Bascially, I'm wondering if anyone has done anything like this before? I'm hoping to get one of the earlier few time slots, because I'm one of those nanoers who limps to the finish and pulls like three allnighters in the last week to win. So, basically, is there any advice on balancing it? And also on advising new people who don't know what they're doing without sounding like a dick? Right now the group is planning on workshopping the chapters every week, which seems massively counter-intuitive to me in regards to obtaining 50,000 words, and also a waste of good writing time. I've tried to point this out before without falling back on the "I'm clearly superior 'cause I've done this before and I know what I'm doing" thing, which is what "Guys, I've done this six times before and am sort of familiar with the basic process, though certainly not an expert as I keep fucking things somewhere between november 13 and november 27" always sounds like, but have thus far been unsuccessful.
So I'm looking for advice on two things: of course I would love to win on my own, how do I balance that with doing a second round robin nano with other people? and b) I also want to win with the group, what is in my power to help that happen, and can I give advice/help out/etc. without being an asshole? Can I even do that? Should I? Is this bordering on too psychological and am I revealing all of my deepest flaws by asking you these questions? etc.
Thank you, and hope your blissful Octobers are going well! I'm getting excited. :)
