So, umm, I was really going on my novel but then a few days ago I just ran out of physical steam. I still have plenty of plot left, I love my characters and whatnot, I just got distracted by life and ran out of steam. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what to do to give myself the kick I need? *BIG sigh*

Walk away for a weekend. Go somewhere you like and enjoy yourself or watch the people. When you've done that and enjoyed yourself, then go back to the novel and get a fresh start.

Write or Die (http://lab.drwicked.com/writeordie.html) *nods in agreement*
I have to use it on Kamikaze Mode, but it has managed to give me nearly 2000 words tonight and finally 10k is in sight.

It also really helps that one of my friends is doing NaNo and I'm very determined to beat her word count.

Yeah, that's my motivation. Right now, I believe I am at over twice my friend's count and I want to keep it that way.

If you've been distracted by life, you need to sit down and write. Period. Doesn't matter if it sucks, doesn't matter if it doesn't work, just put one word after another, get from point A to point B in your plot, and eventually your novel will open up to you again.

This.

I had a few very low word count days, and a day that I didn't write at all... but then I got my butt to a write in and sat there and wrote 6K. And the next day I wrote 3K. You know it is possible to do it, it is just a matter of sitting down, doing it, and accepting no excuses.

And remember that writing begets writing, and procrastinating begets more procrastination. The longer you go without writing, the harder it will be to start up again. Writing everyday is a HUGE help for me, even if I don't hit 1667 words.

November has turned out far busier on the RL front than I'd anticipated, too - but I find that it works that I just sit down and try to write, every odd moment I get. Even if it's just for a short while, sit and look at your novel. If it's not time you're short of, just steam, then I suggest a good walk or similar: it's great for getting novelly, thinky thoughts going. Good luck!

Starting to write every day is the main thing. Crap will come, but if you keep at it, the good stuff will, too. :)

I completely understand. NaNo has been a bit difficult for me due to life, work, and other obligations that seem to have drained me. When I sit down to write, it is sometimes difficult to write yet I love my story, characters, and plot. I am excited, but exhausted. =\

So far, I have managed to just force myself onwards through sheer determination not to slip too far behind on wordcount and the glimmer of hope that tomorrow (a holiday for me, which means no work) I will be able to catch up.

I'm just plugging along. I was chugging along happily, almost at 20k in the first week. Then I just... flopped. I'm still in a slump, and my little sister is beating me word count wise... Meh, NCIS on in the background helps when I write police-y bits. :)

I haven't been writing for about a week due to exams and RL things, but during this time, I've only written once, and that was around 200 words. Just write. Keep writing. And you'll get out of this slump soon.

Just LOOK at Write or Die (http://lab.drwicked.com/writeordie.html).

I've written ~1500 words in one night after not writing at all for days. :D;; Still under word count, but a LOT better than before!

Go for a walk, get some fresh air, and come back. Then write!
