I am now just 200 or so words from where I should be (for day 13's quota). Which, though not stellar, is pretty good considering how much I had to catch up over the past few days. I feel like the story's dragging a bit but my commitment is to not overthink to just get it written. I just want to be able to say on Nov. 30th I DID IT.

Do you ever feel like  your style is constantly changing even if you manage to keep your voice and tense correct?

I feel like depending on the scene, my writing style changes and that throughout its never been overly consistent. I'm almost afraid to read it again next month for fear of being witness to the crap I've produced.

And on top of that, I've got a lot of my supporters asking me to read it when I'm done.

So I set up these goals for myself, these daily quotas, with the intent to blow past them every day, to exceed them and put myself closer to the final goal. But it seems that every night as I get to where the writing is getting harder and harder, I find myself pushing to even meet the goal and when I finally get there, it's only exceeding it by a couple of words. Each night is different, I take a different approach to my writing schedule, and yet every night its the same thing. Counting down the last 100 words or so.

I used to be able to blast past my quota by nearly 500 words, now I'm coming in right on quota or less than 100 over. Anyone else have this kind of situation? Do you get to your goal and think, "I should write more, just to get ahead." And then actually do it?

Zero Words

I wrote 0 words today. Zero. Zip. Nada.

I really didn't expect to get much written today, which is why I've been trying to make sure I wrote just a little bit extra each day, so that I could stay caught up even with a low-word-count day.

The problem is that I also wrote very little yesterday (less than 500 words), so between the two days I managed to fritter away all of the extra wordage I had accumulated so far.

No more wriggle room, no more slack.

I have to get seriously back to it tomorrow or risk falling behind.

I'm not discouraged (yet), because I still have a decent overall word count, but a few more days like this and I could be.

Hope all you other Nanoites are doing well!

Even though I'm not particupating in NaNoWriMo this year, I am writing a story of my own in my own timeframe. This is the 3rd Nano-type story I've written.

Anyways, I wanted to post an observation I had when I read a book this evening (400+ pages in just under 5 hours). I no longer can just read a book, there's always a part of my mind that's analyzing the sentence structure, the phrases, the dialog, the detail. I wonder if that's a good thing or a bad thing?

In case you're interested : http://pawz.cattech.org/~posicat/nanowrimo/2004
(complete with disclaimer why it's not really Nano)

Coming from over a 5 thousand word deficit... I'm pretty pleased.

And now it is 3 am. Do you know where your WC is?

So, I finished writing the scene that was bugging me so much last night. It's not very long - I couldn't bring myself to get detailed - but I definitely feel better now that the Colonel is out of that woman's apartment.

BTW, if anyone is interested, I've posted my progress thus far at [livejournal.com profile] cats_view. Any and all feedback gleefully accepted.

I'm way ahead of the daily quota, but not ahead of my plot, which is right about at the halfway point.

This whole thing has really roused my creativity, and I now have two more pretty good ideas for other Regency romances floating around in my head. I hope to have time over my upcoming vacation to rough out their plots.

Anyone else going through the two-week slump? I'm still having fun writing (I always have fun writing), but a little voice in my head is saying, "This is so boring, no one is ever going to want to read it." There's the beauty of NaNo. If I were writing normally, that might slow me down or even stop me. But with NaNo, another voice in my head is saying, "Shut up and keep going, get that word count done!" Lovely!

Wow. I abandoned my NaNo on the second day - I just wasn't interested in it.

I just got another idea for a novel.

And I'm going to try to write it for NaNo.

3125 words a day.

I can do this. . . I hope.

I'm pulling out of the contest.

It occured to me that what I'm writing has become a big steaming pile of dogturd Mary Sue self insertion wish fullfillment SHITTINESS.

This is not the sort of thing I wish to write, and every time I try to write romance or erotic romance this is what it turns into.

I know that I won't be able to pull something new out of my hat much less write in time, so I have to back out this time. Maybe next year I can come up with a better idea.

Thanks to everyone for your support and I wish you all the best of luck.

So yay. :)

I feel so proud of the fact that I've stuck NaNoWriMo out to this point and that I've written as much as I have. At the beginning of the month, one participant mentioned that she had little star stickers to mark her progress on a calendar...which I thought was just darling. And I decided that I needed stickers too.

So I went and bought little cat stickers. I get 1 paw for every 1,000 words and a 1 Hello Kitty face for every chapter. It may sound silly, but looking at all those little kitty faces...well, I feel all warm inside.

Call me dorky, but I am just so proud of my discipline. So are my sticker-cats.

I'm writing my senior thesis on WRITER'S BLOCK so i am looking for any journal entries (paper or electronic) that any of you may have exploring your own blocks. I would be using the journal entries as anonymous data for a content anaysis. For more info you can look here: http://www.livejournal.com/users/ashes_evrywhere/22734.html
It would be amazing if anyone could contribute. Comment here or email me at damnhippies@gmail.com

Inspired by a thread starting on Lil-e-beth's post, I figure we can work on this together and submit it somewhere for fun later.

So... here we go. Add comments with ideas that you come up with and let's see how drunk we can get.

Take a shot if:

Your MC won't tell you why it wants to do something, but it HAS to be done.

You stare at your screen at the words "The..." and can't remember the rest of the sentence.

You forgot your plot in your other pants.

You don't need no stinking plot!

Hitting 50,000K in one day becomes your new goal on November 29th.
